Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the service of meals to facility guests, managing volunteers and guests to ensure food safety and proper service.
  • Manage guest cleaning crews and volunteers to keep cafeteria, kitchen, and storage areas clean.
  • Assist with meal prep, including opening canned fruit and preparing beverages.
  • Serve as driver on rotation, transporting meals between the Offsite Kitchen and facilities; collect leftovers at shift end.
  • Maintain logs of food and refrigerator temperatures for safety and records.
  • Sort and rotate incoming items, ensuring dating and stock control.
  • Inventory items each shift and verify dating and rotation.
  • Communicate needs and numbers to Food Service staff via email.
  • Attend meetings and trainings as scheduled.
  • Show Christ-like care, share gospel, and pray with guests as appropriate.

The main mission of the City Rescue Mission of Lansing, since its founding, has remained to teach the Word of God as found in the Christian Bible (Romans 10:13-15), edify and equip the saints to be committed followers of Jesus Christ and His teachings (Ephesians 4:11-13), and present an authentic representation of traditional, Biblical Christianity (Philippians 1:9-11). Job Overview:

This role is vital to the Success of the City Rescue Mission. The Food Service Coordinator oversees the service of the meal to the guests of their assigned facility, managing volunteers and guest cleaning crews to ensure the cafeteria and kitchen are cleaned and sanitized properly. The 2nd Shift Coordinator is also responsible, as assigned, for picking up the meal from the Offsite Kitchen and delivering it to all facilities and ending their shift by picking up leftovers from all facilities and returning to the Offsite Kitchen. The Coordinator must have an excellent grasp on food safety, multitask well, and be able to maintain a clean and organized workstation under pressure. The Coordinator must be friendly and encouraging while maintaining shelter policy and procedure with consistency and firmness. The Coordinator must also be able to complete tasks independently and accurately, meeting deadlines every time. The Coordinator must be able to enforce food safety rules and City Rescue Mission policies to volunteers and guests in a consistent and caring manner.

Expected Schedule

Expected Schedule-1st or 2nd Shift- 1st Shift Coordinator is to be available between 6am and 10am. 2nd Shift coordinator is to be available between 4pm and 9pm.

Responsibilities and Duties:
  • Oversee the service of the meal to all facility guests, managing volunteers and guests as they assist with serving- ensuring food safety rules and best practices are being followed
  • Manage guest cleaning crews and volunteers ensuring the cafeteria, kitchen, and storage areas are cleaned thoroughly every shift
  • Do some meal prep, including opening cans of fruit, preparing pitchers of beverages, and other tasks as needed
  • One Food Service Coordinator per shift will act as the driver, starting at the Offsite Kitchen to pick up the meal, drop off at the facility where they are not working and then ending their shift by picking up leftovers at the other facility and ending at the offsite kitchen
  • Maintain logs of food and refrigerator temperatures to ensure food safety and accurate record keeping
  • Sort and put away incoming items that are stored in the warming kitchens/storage spaces- ensuring things are dated and stock is rotated
  • Do inventory of the available items every shift- ensuring every item is dated, within date, and being rotated
  • Communicating with all other Food Service staff via Email communicating needs, numbers, and other relevant information
  • Attend all meetings and training sessions as scheduled
  • Show the love of Christ, be ready to share the gospel, and pray with guests regularly
Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma- Required
  • ServSafe Certified or able to be Certified within 90 days of Employment- Preferred
  • Driver's License- Required
  • Proficient use of the Microsoft Suite-Preferred

  • Commit to continual training under those called to teach the doctrines of the faith and the Word of God, as well as to seek out fellowship with other believers (Hebrews 10:24-25), as evidenced by being a member in good standing in a local evangelical church.
Environment

The Food Service Coordinator will need to consistently work in a noisy and distraction-filled environment. The Coordinator’s task will occasionally require them to work in low temperatures, high temperatures, outdoor elements (e.g. rain, wind, snow), and small/enclosed spaces.

Physical Requirements-

The Food Service Coordinator will need to be able to navigate stairs- quickly and proficiently navigating up to 2 flights of stairs whenever needed. They will constantly need to be able to lift 25lbs in all directions and will occasionally need to lift 50 +lbs in all directions. They will need to complete 1-2 hours of physically taxing work without a break and stand or walk for 3+hours without sitting down. They will occasionally need to complete 3+ hours of physically taxing work without a break.

The Food Service Coordinator will need to be able to constantly complete visual scans of indoor/outdoor areas in varying levels of light. They will need to occasionally complete tasks with repetitive motions that include the wri sts, hands, and/or fingers. They will need to be able to constantly communicate clearly with others to exchange information.
