Job summary

Independence Health System Inc. is seeking a POS/cashier to perform all aspects of transactions, including cash, credit, and meal tickets. The role may involve supporting retail food service duties and maintaining high standards of customer service.

The position requires 18+ years old with 0–2 years in food service or related fields. Healthcare experience is preferred, with attention to sanitation and safety standards across shifts.

Responsibilities

• Operate POS system and handle cash, credit cards, meal tickets, and promos.
• Balance till and complete end-of-shift deposits; reconcile discrepancies.
• Assist in training new register associates and provide excellent customer service.
• Stock and replenish retail areas; serve hot food items as needed.
• Follow sanitation and safety procedures; use gloves and adhere to FIFO; report hazards.

Job Summary/Overall Objectives

Performs all aspects of POS (point of sale) transactions to include cash, credit cards, meal tickets, and promos. May also support the retail food serving duties as needed.

Essential Job Functions

• Performs and navigates the functions of the POS system.
• Trouble shoots issues and calls for support as needed.
• Assists with the training of new register associates.
• Performs opening and closing POS procedures to include counting till and balancing reconciliation.
• Pulls end of day sales report and completes shift deposit.
• Charges customers appropriately for all items
• Manages cash transactions promptly and no cash is left unattended.
• Processes credit card transactions through payment gateway
• Notifies supervisor of any difficulties or discrepancies at the register
• Keeps receipts of VOIDS with documentation
• Performs excellent customer service skills with all customers.
• Handles service recovery immediately or involves supervisor as needed.
• Receives and distributes all messages in a timely manner.
• Retail Support
  • Stocks and replenishes areas in the retail setting to include condiments, beverages, and grab and go items.
  • Serves hot food items to customers as needed.
• Sanitation and Regulatory
  • Practices good hygiene including hand washing and wearing hair restraints.
  • Uses gloves when serving and preparing food.
  • Properly labels items and discards expired.
  • Stocks items with FIFO guidelines
  • Performs routine cleaning assignments.

  • Operates equipment safely according to manufacturer guidelines.
  • Reports any equipment malfunctions or unsafe working conditions.

Required Qualifications/Experience

• Zero (0) to two (2) years of experience in food service, cash handling, retail operations, banks, or restaurants.
• Strong leadership ability, good organizational skills, independent and critical thinking skills, sound judgment, and knowledge of legal aspects and liability of nursing practice.
• Strong ability to communicate complex and/or controversial topics and concepts to a wide and diverse audience.

Preferred Qualifications/Experience

• Experience in Healthcare setting.

License, Certification & Clearances

• ServSafe Food Safety Certification preferred.
• Act 34-PA Criminal Record Check from the PA State Police system

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

• Incumbent will be scheduled based on operational need (rotate shifts, standby, on-call, etc.).
• Travel may be expected locally between System locations.
