University Housing Dining and Culinary Services at UW–Madison is seeking a motivated leader to join our team in a Food Service Assistant Manager role. You will help oversee daily operations across residential dining, retail, and catering while supervising career and student staff.

As Assistant Manager, you will drive service quality, ensure food safety standards, and support planning of catered campus events with strong student engagement.

Qualifications

• One (1) year or more of leadership experience in a foodservice, retail or catering environment.
• A valid driver's license meeting UW Risk Management standards is required for catering positions and preferred for in-unit positions.
• Current ServSafe Manager certification, or the ability to be certified within the first 6 months of appointment.

Responsibilities

• Leads and provides exceptional customer service, answers questions, and provides information regarding food preparation, catering, and associated activities
• Assists with unit budget monitoring, management of inventory levels, and staff training
• Develops, implements and oversees workflow components, and assigns and coordinates the day-to-day activities of food service staff
• Monitors adherence to federal, state, campus, and local foodsafety regulations, policies, and procedures, identifies needs and makes recommendations for improvement to leadership

In this role, you will:

• Lead daily dining, retail, and catering operations to deliverexceptional service
• Supervise, coach, and support career and student employees
• Ensure high standards for food quality, presentation, foodsafety, and customer service
• Assist with planning and executing catered events acrosscampus
• Build positive relationships with students, guests, and campuspartners
• Support fast-paced, high-volume dining environments and provideleadership during emergencies

Work Schedule:

• The primary schedule for this position typically consists of 5,8-hour shifts per week that may fall on any day of the week.Schedules may rotate every other weekend. This position isprimarily scheduled to cover late afternoon and evenings.
• Operational and work schedules will be closely aligned with theservices and customer needs of the unit. As a result, workschedules may be adjusted during specific times of the year,including summer and winter break hours.

University Housing Dining and Culinary Services provides affordable meals made from locally sourced ingredients and innovative dining options to residents, guests, and staff. We have market-place style locations in six buildings throughout campus. These marketplaces offer a new variety of selections each day, as well as made-to-order stations. Additionally, there are convenience stores, coffeehouses, and two franchises throughout campus, as well as a Catering, and Central Production and Bakery operation.

Within the Eagle Heights Community Garden, Dining and Culinary Services has a 1-acre Campus Farm producing vegetables that are used in menus in marketplaces, as well as in Grab & Go items convenience stores and on the Electric Eats Food Truck.

Compensation:

The starting annual salary is $53,500 or higher based on qualifications and includes a competitive retirement and benefits package, and a free meal for every shift! This is a full-time position. Benefits information can be found at ( https://hr.wisc.edu/benefits/ ).
