Central Regional Hospital
Are you looking for an exciting career in Nutrition Services with opportunities for job growth?

We are currently recruiting for a Food Service Assistant at Central Regional Hospital. This position will be cross-trained throughout Nutrition Services as appropriate. The primary purpose of this position is to prepare and serve food from all stations throughout the Nutrition Services Department. Assigned duties may include, but are not limited to:

  • Checking patient trays and snacks for proper food items, correct portion size, consistency & preferences.
  • Deliver meals and snacks to the different units throughout the hospital, to the wards and / or dining room.
  • Ensure safety of foods served.
  • Maintain high knowledge of modified diets, posted menus, and portion; this includes innumerable combinations of diets that are not printed on any menu guides.
  • Preparing meals and snacks to be served accurately, attractively & on time.
  • May interpret diet orders, translate it into modified diet menus, and portions.
  • Ensuring that all pots, pans and cooking utensils are cleaned, dried and sanitized properly.
  • Emptying all cardboard and trash receptacles and clean work areas as necessary.
  • Responsible for the cleanliness of all floors in the department which includes sweeping and mopping.

This is a full-time position and eligible for the full State benefits package including health insurance and retirement. This is a first shift position (5:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.), that includes working rotating weekends and holidays as scheduled; however, flexibility is required to meet hospital needs. This position is designated Mandatory and must report or stay over during adverse weather events. This will be discussed in further detail during the interview process.


As of January 1, 2025, the new salary range will be $26,851 - $46,991.

  • Ability to speak, read, understand and follow oral and written instructions in English.
  • Physical requirements will be discussed during the interview process; but include ability to perform moderate physical labor; ability to work in a repetitive motion, walking long distances, occasional lifting of objects 10 to 35 pounds, standing 1 1/2 hours in the same place, bending and stooping.

Management prefers candidates with the following:
  • Experience with modified diet menus.
  • One year of experience in Commercial and/or institutional kitchen.
  • High School or GED equivalent.
