Job Description

Position Title: Food Service Assistant – District Sub Roamer #5

Location: Roaming position; may be at a different building each day

Reports To: Kitchen Manager, Food Service Director and/or Principal/Assistant Principal

Hours: 10:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. (15 hrs/wk; 3 hrs/day)

Status: Ten (10) month position

First day of school for students – Last day of school for students.

Summary

The Food Service Substitute provides support in our student nutrition program by assisting other Food Service Assistants, the Kitchen Manager and the Food Service Supervisor in the overall management and organization of the food service program while providing excellent customer service to staff, students and families.

Essential Functions
  • Sub – must be willing to work at all schools. Hours and times may vary. Hours may increase due to school and position.
  • Clean and sanitize workspace before and after food preparation.
  • Follow standard recipes and food safety protocols while cooking.
  • Help with preparing side dishes and assembling foods.
  • Help count/prepare condiments needed for lunch. If using cups and packets, record beginning counts on FPR. If using bulk, weigh, and record weight to FPR.
  • Assist in putting stock away.
  • Help serve lunch.
  • Replenish food as needed in cold and/or hot cart.
  • Assist with recording on daily production sheets.
  • Label, date and store leftover food.
  • Perform general cleaning duties, including sweeping and mopping floors, cleaning and sanitizing work areas and equipment (including milk coolers) and washing and sanitizing dishes and utensils.
  • Dispose of trash and prepare cardboard for recycling.
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding student accounts.
  • Must be able to lift 25 lbs.
  • Regular, predictable in-person attendance.
  • Any other duties assigned by the Kitchen Manager or Food Service Supervisor.

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to coordinate hands, eyes, feet and limbs in performing semi-skilled movements such as cooking, washing dishes and operation of a computer keyboard, cash register, and telephone. The employee is required to be on his/her feet walking around the cafeteria and food service department building for several hours at a time. The employee is required to exert physical effort in work involving lifting, carrying, pushing, walking, standing, reaching with hands and arms, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling. Employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 35 pounds from floor to waist height. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision and ability to adjust focus.

Environmental Adaptability

The work environment characteristics described herein are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. The noise level in the work environment is moderately loud. The work environment is normally indoors with controlled climate conditions. Occasionally the employee may be required to be outdoors for a short period of time, and therefore subject to varying weather conditions, for purposes of accomplishing the essential functions of this job. This position requires the employee to work in different building cafeteria and food service departments as needed. The ability to travel via employee’s automobile between buildings is required.
