Job summary

United Way of King County is seeking a communications-focused professional to support the Hunger Free Washington initiative. The role blends program communications, marketing, project coordination, advocacy, and program support to help partners understand and advance food security priorities across Washington State.

The position is grant-funded with an anticipated end date of June 30, 2027, and may extend based on grant funding.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in communications, marketing, public relations, nonprofit management, public policy, or a related field preferred.
  • Demonstrated understanding of social and racial justice and equity, with a proven commitment to apply this lens in work contexts.

Responsibilities

  • Develop engaging written and visual materials to support United Way's Hunger Free Washington initiative and federal child nutrition programs.
  • Translate complex program and policy information into accessible materials for partners, school districts, policymakers, funders, and community members.
  • Draft and support content for partner- and community-facing materials, including blog posts, newsletters, presentations, social media content, and reports.
  • Create print and digital materials using Canva or other design tools to communicate program impact and resources.
  • Collaborate with colleagues and external partners to coordinate effective storytelling with accurate, audience-appropriate information.
  • Provide logistical and communications support related to food security advocacy priorities, including policy summaries and briefing materials.
  • Assist with briefing materials, talking points, one-pagers, partner alerts, and other advocacy tools.
  • Coordinate high-quality in-person and virtual events that advance food security priorities, including statewide meetings and trainings.
  • Support a positive participant experience at events and assist with broader statewide food security initiatives.
