Food Safety Risk Manager, NA Food Safety Audit & Monitoring

The North American Food Safety A&M Team ensures that all Amazon Fulfillment sites meet safety criteria and regulatory requirements. They collaborate with a diverse range of internal stakeholders to develop and implement comprehensive policies and procedures across the fulfillment network. They excel at translating food safety initiatives into clear, actionable guidelines, facilitating seamless adoption across the fulfillment network.


Key job responsibilities

  1. Develop, enhance, and optimize Amazon Food Safety Operations and standard work protocols, ensuring alignment with industry best practices and regulatory requirements.
  2. Audit and monitor comprehensive programs to drive food safety execution for maximum proficiency and effectiveness.
  3. Proactively identify opportunities for leveraging external expertise, then source, manage, and collaborate with third-party consultants for validations, research, and bench-marking to continuously improve food safety protocols.
  4. Establish and maintain a robust set of compliance metrics and key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure output performance, track progress, and identify areas for improvement in food safety programs, using data-driven insights to inform continuous improvement efforts.
  5. Lead cross-functional teams to implement food safety initiatives, ensuring seamless integration with existing operational processes and systems.
  6. Compose and edit detailed business review documents to effectively communicate food safety improvement initiatives.

A day in the life

In this role, you will be elevating food safety compliance standards across Amazon's network of Distribution and Retail/Grocery Fulfillment sites. Your typical day will blend strategic planning with operational rigor. You’ll work with a diverse range of internal and external stakeholders to ensure smooth execution of protocols. You'll analyze trends, conduct comprehensive assessments, and collaborate with third-party experts when required to continuously enhance our processes. This fast-paced role requires a balance of strategic thinking and analytical skills.


About the team

The North American Food Safety Audit and Monitoring team governs operational food safety programs that drive compliance, mitigate risk, and support scalable business growth. We collaborate across stakeholder groups to drive food safety standards. We leverage metrics and technology for continuous improvement. Our initiatives ensure the safety of products for millions of customers, reinforcing their confidence in Amazon.


Minimum Qualifications

  1. Bachelor’s degree in Food Science or a related field.
  2. 5+ years of experience managing Food Safety and Quality in a large-scale retail or manufacturing environment (multi-store/multi-plant).
  3. Experience applying Food Code requirements across local, state, and federal food regulations.
  4. Experience leveraging technology to drive process improvements.
  5. Program management experience.
  6. Knowledge of Microsoft Office products and applications at an advanced level.

Preferred Qualifications

  1. Master’s degree in Food Science or related field.
  2. Participation in Food Industry Councils and Working Groups.
  3. Online/retail experience.
  4. Proven ability to execute strategic programs across a large scale.
  5. Demonstrated ability to write clear, concise, and compelling narratives.
  6. Ability to work independently and autonomously.
  7. Self-motivated with critical attention to detail, deadlines and reporting.

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $109,000/year in our lowest geographic market up to $185,000/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
