Job Responsibilities

Makes work assignments, monitors and directs food production on assigned shift to ensure appropriate production and timely service of food items, making sure that departmental standards of quality and service are followed. Circulates throughout the Nutrition Services department to ensure that staff members are properly handling potentially hazardous foods, monitoring cooking and holding temperatures and following established food preparation and sanitation standards. Circulates throughout the Nutrition Services department to ensure that staff members are performing assigned tasks consistent with established procedures and documentation standards. Conducts audits to ensure that procedures are being followed. Coaches and takes corrective action for food products and customer service that does not meet standards. Performs Nutrition Production job duties as needed during staff relief or limited staffing.

Performs Nutrition Production job duties as needed during staff relief or limited staffing.

Participates in selection, orientation, and training of new staff. Works with the Department Manager and other departmental leadership team members to plan, coordinate, execute and document monthly staff in-service training: leads training associated with initial learning or review of staff equipment use and hospitality skills. Develops and makes shift work assignments. Completes and investigates incident reports (RIRs) as needed. Completes employee performance evaluations, annual competency reviews and employee counseling actions. Adjusts staff assignments based on patient census and overall food production needs. Ensures that all staff members follow their respective schedules and complete their duties in a timely manner. Involves employees in performance improvement activities in order to enhance employees’ long-term understanding and effectiveness.

Responsible for maintaining and auditing department production and cleaning documentation, including trending and benchmarking spreadsheets; makes recommendations for changes. Serves as the department coordinator and staff training resource. Represents Nutrition Services on assigned hospital-wide committees and provides feedback and recommendations for process integration and performance improvement to the Manager from these committees. Participates in special projects as assigned by Nutrition Services Manager. Assists with planning menus, trialing new menu items and recipes and adjusting menus to utilize leftovers.

Works with Plant Operations and service/equipment contractors to maintain equipment in proper working condition. Completes work requests as needed. Follows up to ensure repairs are complete when needed. Consults with Manager as needed regarding equipment operation and repairs. Trains staff members in the use, care, and maintenance of equipment.

Ensures accurate handling of cafeteria cash and sales documentation at assigned intervals.

Responsible for special function catering: assists with preparation of food, delivery, set up and clean up.

Models JMH Service Excellence standards, as well as compliance with HACCP and ISDH sanitation standards.

Participates in facility-wide and departmental performance improvement and in-service training programs.

Performs Other Duties As Required.

Clearly communicates and continuously supports the Mission and Values of Johnson Memorial Health.

Conducts all activities in compliance with applicable laws, regulations, standards, and Johnson Memorial Health policies and procedures including Blood and Body Substance Precautions.

Education, Experience And Training

High school diploma or equivalent required. Minimum of three years food production experience in health care, retail or school food service required. Completion of additional certification program(s) such as Certified Dietary Manager (CDM), hospitality administration or culinary arts preferred. Previous supervisory experience preferred. State certified Food Sanitation Certificate (ServSafe) required within 6 months of employment.

Schedule

Shifts varied from 6am to 7pm including weekends.

Varied hours between 6am-7pm including every other Saturday and Sunday.

60 hours per two-week pay period.
