Job summary

The Salvation Army USA Central Territory is seeking a Food Pantry Assistant to support pantry operations by stocking storage areas, preparing client food orders, and keeping all areas clean and organized. Responsibilities include inventory control, food safety practices, and assisting volunteers.

Additional duties include helping with donations, maintaining records, and ensuring clients receive appropriate food items based on household needs.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED preferred.
• Basic reading and math skills required.
• Learn and adhere to The Salvation Army Social Services Code of Ethics.

Responsibilities

• Stock pantry storage areas using supplies from storage, donations, etc.
• Unload, sort, and store food orders; keep items organized and in designated areas.
• Maintain proper inventory levels and records of pantry items.
• Apply food safety guidelines when handling food items; monitor shelf life; dispose of outdated items; record refrigerator/freezer temperatures.
• Provide food pantry recipients with orders based on household size and dietary needs.
• Assist recipients with bringing food items to vehicles as requested.
• Keep pantry areas clean by sweeping, surfaces, trash removal, and breaking down boxes.
• Guide pantry volunteers as requested.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
