Job summary

The Salvation Army is seeking a Pantry Assistant to support the food pantry operations. Responsibilities include stocking storage areas, packing client food orders, and maintaining cleanliness of all storage areas and equipment.

You will assist with food item acquisition, ensure proper handling per safety guidelines, and support volunteers as needed. Eligible candidates typically have a high school diploma or GED and basic reading and math skills.

Qualifications

• Learn and adhere to The Salvation Army Social Services Code of Ethics
• Understand and adhere to professional boundaries within and outside of the organization
• Complete Safe From Harm training, and keep current as needed
• Ability to lift up to 75 pounds

Responsibilities

• Stock pantry area and keep storage areas organized and stocked
• Unload, sort, and store food orders; maintain inventory
• Record inventory levels and ensure accurate records
• Follow food safety guidelines and manage shelf life; monitor fridge/freezer temps
• Provide food orders to recipients based on household size and dietary needs
• Assist recipients with carrying items to vehicles as needed
• Keep pantry area clean and safe; sweep, wipe surfaces, remove trash
• Guide pantry volunteers as needed
• Perform other duties as assigned

Education

High school diploma or GED (preferred)
