Join Our Team as a Food and Nutritionist Coordinator

CAPI is seeking a reliable, community-focused, and relationship-driven Food & Nutrition Coordinator to oversee the day-to-day operations of our Food & Nutrition programming. This position plays a critical role in ensuring access to nutritious food for immigrant, refugee, and underserved community members through management of CAPI's Client Choice Food Shelf, fresh produce distributions, volunteer engagement, and participant support services.

The Food & Nutrition Coordinator will be responsible for maintaining food inventory, coordinating food distribution activities, supervising volunteers and interns, providing community resource connections, and ensuring compliance with food shelf standards and program requirements. As a member of the Community Advocacy team, this position serves as a direct connection to the community, building meaningful relationships with program participants, identifying unmet needs, and helping elevate community voices to inform both program development and broader advocacy efforts.

We are looking for an individual who is passionate about food access, community engagement, and supporting immigrant and refugee communities through culturally responsive and person-centered service.

Key Responsibilities

• Food Shelf Operations and Food Access: Manage the daily operations of CAPI's Client Choice Food Shelf to ensure community members have consistent access to nutritious food. Monitor inventory levels and coordinate the purchase, receipt, and stocking of food to maintain adequate supply. Receive, unload, sort, and organize food deliveries and donations. Package and distribute food to participants while maintaining a welcoming and respectful environment. Ensure the food shelf remains clean, organized, safe, and compliant with program guidelines and food safety requirements. Maintain accurate records and timely data entry within client management systems.
• Participant Engagement and Community Support: Build trusting relationships with food shelf participants and develop an understanding of their unique needs and circumstances. Conduct participant intakes and assist community members with applications for public benefits programs, including SNAP and NAPS. Connect participants with community resources and referrals, including employment services, health insurance, and additional support programs. Serve as a key point of contact between CAPI and the community, helping elevate participant feedback and community needs. Participate in community events, outreach activities, and department meetings.
• Fresh produce Distribution and Community Food Initiatives: Coordinate fresh produce distributions, including purchasing food and supplies, event setup and teardown, volunteer coordination, and reporting. Track participation data and complete required program documentation. Build and maintain partnerships with local businesses, organizations, and sponsors to support food access initiatives. Provide logistical support for CAPI's Farmers Market programming. Assist with the management and maintenance of community garden plots.
• Volunteer and Intern Coordination: Create a welcoming, safe, and supportive environment for volunteers and interns. Partner with CAPI's Volunteer Coordinator to recruit, onboard, and engage volunteers and interns. Provide training, orientation, and day-to-day supervision for volunteers and interns supporting food shelf operations and distributions. Track intern hours and performance and complete reports required by educational institutions. Support volunteer engagement efforts that strengthen community involvement and program success.

Qualifications

We are seeking candidates with a High School Diploma or equivalent required; an Associate degree is preferred. Experience working in a food shelf, food access program, case management setting, community organizing environment, or customer service role is strongly preferred. Hmong language fluency is also strongly preferred.

The ideal candidate will have experience working with diverse communities, particularly immigrant and refugee populations. Candidates should possess strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills and demonstrate professionalism, teamwork, and cultural responsiveness in all interactions. Success in this role requires strong organizational skills, attention to detail, sound judgment, and the ability to effectively manage multiple responsibilities in a dynamic, community-based environment. Candidates should be comfortable using Microsoft Office applications, databases, and other technology tools to support program operations and reporting.
