VACANCY INFORMATION:

  • Location: Milan, MO
  • Establishment: M320M-Smithfield Fresh Meats Corps, Sullivan County
  • Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 6:30 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.
  • Activity: Meat Slaughter
  • Species: Hog
Duties
  • Work in slaughter plants examining food animals, ensuring products are not contaminated, and maintaining sanitation procedures.
  • Guarantee that the product is fit to eat and complies with Federal laws.
Requirements
  • U.S. Citizenship required.
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment medical examination.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust security clearance, including a National Agency Check and Inquiry (NACI).
  • At least 18 years old.
  • Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must complete a Pre-Employment Certification for Selective Service Registration.
  • Submit a resume documenting 52 weeks of specialized experience.
  • Compliance with E-VERIFY employment eligibility verification system.
  • Potential requirement to complete a Declaration for Federal Employment (OF-306).
  • Ability to have direct deposit of federal payments.
Qualifications

The role involves working in a hazardous environment, requiring physical ability and specific skills. Applicants must meet all qualification requirements by the closing date, including:

  • Physical and medical ability to perform essential functions.
  • Full range of motion, ability to stand, walk, climb stairs, lift up to 30 pounds (occasionally up to 50 pounds), and manual dexterity.
  • Good vision, including the ability to distinguish shades of color.
  • For GS-5: One year of specialized experience or a bachelor's degree with relevant coursework.
  • For GS-7: One year of experience equivalent to the next lower grade, involving regulatory food inspection work.

Experience can include work in slaughter or processing plants, meat cutting, quality control, or supervisory roles in related fields. Volunteer experience is also credited.
