Job summary

National University of Natural Medicine seeks a part-time Food as Medicine Everyday Educator to teach community nutrition classes and manage all aspects of the programs. The Educator will recruit participants, schedule sessions, and procure resources such as books, food and cooking supplies.

This in-person role is based at the Portland, Oregon campus. The ideal candidate has a Master’s in nutrition with teaching experience and experience with Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Adobe Acrobat.

Qualifications

• Completed Food as Medicine Everyday Educator training.
• Master’s degree in nutrition plus at least 1 year of academic or teaching experience.
• Proficiency in Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Adobe Acrobat.
• Experience with databases or business software.

Responsibilities

• Teach the FAME series at community sites.
• Teach additional community nutrition classes to promote FAMI.
• Assist in recruiting participants and managing registrations.
• Train work study students for class support.
• Maintain communication with participants and students throughout the class.
• Develop new curriculum and adapt recipes for locations.
• Assist with FAME Educator training.

Position Description

The Food as Medicine Everyday (FAME) Educator is responsible for teaching community nutrition education classes through the Food as Medicine Institute. They will manage all aspects of the classes they teach, such as participant recruitment, scheduling, and resource procurement (eg. books, food, and cooking supplies).

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Community Education and Outreach

• Teach the Food as Medicine Everyday (FAME) series at community sites.
• Teach additional community-based nutrition classes to promote FAMI.
• Assist in recruiting participants and managing registration for community classes.
• Train work study students for FAME class support as well as other community outreach activities.
• Maintain communication with work study students and class participants throughout the duration of the class session.
• Develop new course curriculum, as appropriate.
• Adapt curriculum and recipes for each location and community, as appropriate.
• Assist with the FAME Educator training, as appropriate.

Education/Experience

• Completed Food as Medicine Everyday Educator training.
• Master’s degree in nutrition plus at least 1 year of experience, preferably in an academic setting and/or teaching FAME community classes; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Knowledge of Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Adobe Acrobat is required.
• Experience working with databases and other business software strongly preferred.
