Role: Food and Inventory Clerk

Reports to: Program Manager

Department: Access Center

Setting: 100% Onsite

Schedule: M, W, Th, F, 8am - 4:30pm; T, 7am - 3:30pm

Status: Full-time/Non-Exempt/Non-Management

SUMMARY:

As the Food and Inventory Clerk, you will play a key role in our mission to provide compassionate, restorative care to individuals facing homelessness, mental health challenges, and substance addiction. You will ensure that unhoused clients receive meals, and housed clients receive groceries to support their goals of permanent housing and retention.

You may be the first point of contact for clients, fostering a welcoming environment that supports their progress. Using evidence-based approaches like harm reduction, housing-first, and trauma-informed care, you'll engage with clients, ensure adherence to program guidelines, and maintain a safe, well-kept facility. Your responsibilities include ensuring kitchen duties are completed on time, completing all admin tasks, maintaining logs, and ensuring the kitchen remains up to code and ready for inspections.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Organize and stock storage areas (food, cleaning/household/hygiene supplies, etc.)
• Coordinate and assemble daily lunches
• Provide directions and coordination for kitchen & clothing room volunteers
• Organize and maintain clothing closet
• Organize, transport, and store donation items
• Ensure the kitchen's smooth operation, cleanliness, and organization
• Maintain accurate inventory of food deliveries weekly and track daily lunches distributed, documenting data
• Plan weekly menus for the food program, utilizing FDA nutritional guidelines
• Clean the pantry/kitchen area and clothing room
• Monitor and supervise delivery of food and clothing donations
• Ensure high nutritional standards per USDA guidelines
• Use proper food handling techniques per LA County Health Dept. guidelines
• Perform weekly food pickups from the food bank
• Monitor and update files for the Grocery program; re-certify clients annually
• Assist with administrative tasks as needed by the Program Manager
• Support staff in maintaining order and smooth service flow
• Participate in all team meetings, training, and evaluations
• Engage in self-evaluation and program development
• Communicate effectively with management, peers, collaborators, and clients
• Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

• High School Diploma or equivalent
• Strong time management, organizational, and communication skills
• Experience in a kitchen environment; weekly travel for pickups/deliveries
• Ability to work in a busy, loud environment and exposure to elements like cold, heat, dust, noise, and odors
• Ability to stand for long periods and lift items weighing up to 50 pounds
