Job summary

Hornblower Corp is seeking a prep cook in Newport Beach, CA. You will prepare food for events, cutting, chopping, peeling, and plating for buffet presentations, while assisting with deliveries and maintaining clean, safe galley stations.

You will work with the team to meet safety and sanitation standards and have the opportunity to learn basic cooking skills and progress into other positions within the operations aboard vessels.

Qualifications

• Minimum 1–2 years of kitchen prep experience.
• Knowledge of health sanitation codes.
• Must be able to obtain TWIC and MMC certification.
• Must understand and communicate with English-speaking crew.

Responsibilities

• Assist in stocking products from deliveries, maintaining proper rotation and storage.
• Follow food production guidelines, preparing food in the allotted time frame.
• Maintain safe and sanitary food standards.
• Label, date and initial all prepared and stored food products.
• Monitor all work areas consistently throughout shift.
• Clean and organize food and pan storage daily.
• Report any tools / equipment in need of repair or replacement.
• Additional job duties assigned.

You will also work with the team to ensure safety and sanitation standards are met throughout the galley. This is an excellent opportunity to learn basic cooking skills and progress into other positions.

Requirements & Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

• 1 to 2 years kitchen prep experience

• California Food Handlers certificate

Grooming:

• All crew members must maintain a neat, clean and well-groomed appearance (specific standards available in the Employee Handbook).

Physical Demands:

• Ability to bend, rotate and reach frequently
• Ascending/descending stairs or ladders safely
• Ability to maneuver through/in/around small and/or confined areas within the vessel
• Must be able to maintain both static and dynamic standing balance to complete various duties associated with job
• Must be capable of performing emergency duties as listed in the vessel's station bill

Work Environment:

• Office environment, stairs available. Work is administrative in nature.
• The majority of work is performed in a Marine environment in both indoor and outdoor conditions with exposure to various temperatures and weather conditions, along with a moderate to loud noise level.
