Job summary

Prescott Farmers Market is seeking a Food Access Coordinator to uphold dignified access to fresh, local food and administer SNAP, Double Up AZ, FMNP, and Feed Your Neighbors programs.

You will support market operations, volunteer coordination, vendor relations, and financial reconciliation, while ensuring respectful community engagement and reliable weekly setup and breakdown. This is a part-time, on-site role in Prescott, AZ with strong emphasis on social impact.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Physically set up and breakdown the market space every Saturday.
• Provide excellent customer service to customers, vendors, and volunteers.
• Organize, fix, restock, and clean market supplies and equipment during the week.
• Perform meticulous financial transactions at the market to reconcile all transactions and currencies.
• Place produce orders with farmers ahead of box-building days for Feed Your Neighbors.
• Maintain detailed records of purchases, vouchers, redemptions, and contacts.
• Orient and schedule volunteers to build and deliver produce boxes to homebound recipients.
• Communicate program updates clearly with recipients and vendors.
• Ensure SNAP, Double Up AZ and FMNP participation requirements are understood by vendors.
• Manage systems that allow customers to redeem nutrition benefits at the market.

As a vital part of the local economy, the mission of Prescott Farmers Market is to support and expand local agriculture, cultivate a healthy community and increase access to affordable local foods. Prescott Farmers Market (PFM) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization serving the Greater Prescott Area through the following programs.

• PFM's foundational program is its Saturday market, where local farmers, ranchers, food, and craft artisans sell their goods. This market provides a space for community connection through food.
• Feed Your Neighbors connects fresh produce from local farms to food-insecure households via food box deliveries and vouchers.
• Prescott Community Compost is a volunteer-powered program turning food scraps into nutrient-rich compost for our community.
• NoCo Community Kitchen is a shared kitchen providing commissary space for small food businesses.

POSITION OVERVIEW

The Food Access Coordinator believes that everyone should have dignified access to fresh, local food. At PFM, this means we uphold practices that ensure that people can acquire adequate, nutritious, and culturally appropriate food in a way that respects their humanity, agency, and self-worth. The Food Access Coordinator maintains systems for multiple food assistance programs, ensuring compliance to the agencies that administer the programs and respect for those they serve. Programs include the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), Double Up Food Bucks Program, the AZ Farmers Market Nutrition Program and PFM's own Feed Your Neighbors program.

The Market Team consists of the Market Vendor Manager, Community Engagement Manager, and Food Access Coordinator, overseen by the Market Director. The Managers and Coordinator collaborate to execute the daily operations of the market, ensuring its success each Saturday. This includes setting up and breaking down the market, cash handling, and customer service during the market day, which can last up to 11 hours.

On weekdays, tasks include financial reconciliation, team meetings, supply restocking and equipment repair, data entry, and farm/ranch inspections. The role is physically demanding and requires strong organizational skills, and the ability to work well in a team setting. It requires a joy for community engagement, a passion for local food, and the ability to maintain professionalism, diplomacy, and accountability.

Market staff are all responsible for operating a successful, community-focused market. The strength of the market team depends on each market team member maintaining a basic understanding of other team members' responsibilities so everyone can support each other when needed.

RESPONSIBILITIES
(percentages are based on hours worked)

Market Operations 55%

Feed Your Neighbors Program Coordination 35%

• Place produce orders with farmers ahead of box-building days.
• Maintain detailed records of produce purchases, voucher distributions and redemptions, client contacts, etc.
• Orient, schedule, and communicate with volunteers to build and deliver produce boxes to homebound recipients.
• Communicate program updates clearly and respectfully with program recipients and participating vendors.

Federal Food Assistance Program Administration 10%

• Ensure vendors understand SNAP, Double Up AZ and FMNP program participation requirements and maintain program compliance.
• Manage systems that allow customers to redeem nutrition benefits at the market.
• Seek opportunities to partner with other food assistance organizations.

QUALIFICATIONS

Preferred:

• Fluent in Spanish
• Experience in emergency food assistance

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS

• Part-time, hourly, average of 25 hours/week
• $20-$21.50/hour starting wage, commensurate with experience
• Annual Cost of Living Allowance raise
• Up to 80 hours PTO annually
• Three paid holidays and one week paid winter break
