Job summary

North Carolina Arts Council is seeking a Folklife Director to lead programs serving traditional artists and community arts organizations across the state. The role sets program priorities, develops partnerships, and ensures robust administration of grants and intern supervision.

The position emphasizes leadership, strategic planning, and collaboration with the Deputy Director and Marketing Team to expand opportunities for folklife preservation and public engagement while maintaining compliance

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in art, English, performing arts, or arts administration.
• Three years of related experience, with a mix of consultative or administrative responsibilities within an arts organization.

Responsibilities

• Oversee the portfolio of grant offerings tailored to discipline-specific arts organizations and other organizations that provide arts programs in folklife, indigenous, authentic, and emergent forms of culture; update grant guidelines and develop a communications plan.
• Oversee monitoring of all grantees, conduct site visits for high-risk grantees, and assist in collecting contract components and revised budgets; approve revised budgets and send rejection letters as needed.
• Develop and implement professional resources and technical assistance for individual artists and discipline-specific arts organizations; collaborate with statewide service organizations to identify needs and opportunities.
• Meet with individuals to provide information regarding professional opportunities in the arts and culture sector; discuss funding, governance, and marketing topics.
• Supervise a summer intern and any contracted vendors; monitor deliverables and process invoices.
