Job summary

Illinois Department of Early Childhood seeks an experienced FOIA & Privacy Legal Counsel to guide disclosure decisions, balance transparency with privacy safeguards, and oversee FOIA, privacy, and OMA compliance. The role supports senior leadership with proactive legal advice and policy implementation.

The position requires a law degree and several years of relevant practice, with experience in government or in-house settings preferred. Excellent collaboration across teams is essential.

Qualifications

• Requires graduation from an accredited law school.
• Requires three years of progressively responsible administrative experience in the practice of law.

Responsibilities

• Serves as Legal Counsel & designated FOIA Officer for the IDEC.
• Serves as the agency's Designated Privacy Officer and Open Meetings Act Officer.
• Addresses FOIA requests, privacy matters, and related legal workflows; provides staff training and guidance.
