Job summary

CGS Federal (Contact Government Services) is seeking a FOIA Analyst to support the legal mission of a large federal agency in a Fairfax, VA on-site role. You will process FOIA requests, draft correspondence, and coordinate with requesters and internal teams to move records through the release process.

The position requires six years of FOIA experience, knowledge of exemptions b(4), b(5), and b(6), and the ability to obtain a government security clearance; experience with FOIA tools like FOIA

Qualifications

• Six (6) years of experience processing Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests.
• Knowledge of FOIA rules and regulations; specifically applying exemptions b(4), b(5), and b(6).
• Experience redacting records with trade secrets and confidential commercial information.
• Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English.

Responsibilities

• Receive, review, and analyze new and backlogged FOIA requests.
• Intake incoming requests and prepare FOIA request folders.
• Enter request data in the FOIA tracking database.
• Draft response letters and other FOIA correspondence.
• Communicate and initiate negotiations with requesters, FOIA staff, sponsors, and contractors.
• Coordinate searches for responsive documents and identify duplicate records.
• Review program records for responsiveness and offer release determinations.
• Ensure released materials do not contain information exempted under applicable exemptions.
