Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Fund Accounting: engage with hedge fund managers and administrators on valuations and accounting; oversee valuations and transactions.
  • Trade Support: support subscription/redemption document prep; reconcile trades; monitor liquidity.
  • Investment Management: assist Portfolio Planning, lead monthly calls, and coordinate performance reviews.
  • Investment Data Maintenance: update returns from data sources; maintain portfolio sheets; assist ad-hoc data gathering.
  • Operational Due Diligence Management: manage ODd provider relationship; review reports and audits; coordinate background checks.

Who You’ll Work With:

The Fund of Hedge Fund (FoHF) Operations Analyst is responsible for the operational, accounting, and compliance controls for the AB Multi-Manager Alternative strategy. The strategy invests in a diversified portfolio of 20-30 blue chip, institutional quality hedge funds that provide diversification by investment style, time horizon, asset class and region. The role requires a strong understanding of the fund vehicles and investments, and will interact with the Portfolio Manager, Analyst, third-party Hedge Fund Managers, service providers, and other internal groups. The areas of responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Fund Accounting

  • Trade Support

  • Liquidity Monitoring

  • Investment Management

  • Investment Data Maintenance

  • Performance Reporting and Board Reporting Support

  • Operational Due Diligence Oversight

What You’ll Do:
Fund Accounting
  • Engage with external Hedge Fund managers, fund administrator, shadow administrator, and other internal groups on valuations and accounting; elevate and resolve any issues.

  • Oversee the weekly, mid-month, and monthly valuations and transactions.

  • Oversee audit, audited financial statements preparation and investor tax reporting.

Trade Support
  • Work with internal groups and third-party providers to support subscription and redemption document preparation.

  • Record and reconcile trades in underlying Hedge Fund investments. Ensure investments comply with fund guidelines.

  • Monitor the fund liquidity for each underlying Hedge Fund investment and provide key notice dates to support Portfolio Manager decisions.

  • Produce a monthly cash calendar and liquidity report for the Portfolio Management team.

Investment Management
  • Assist with the Portfolio Planning process and investment forecasting.

  • Lead monthly Portfolio Planning calls with Portfolio Management team.

  • Organize quarterly performance review calls with underlying Hedge Fund managers.

  • Monitor and forecast client subscriptions and redemptions, fees and expenses, and other liquidity events.

  • Develop an understanding of the fund structure and the ability to interpret legal documents for underlying Hedge Funds.

Investment Data Maintenance
  • Work with AlternativeSoft and off-the-shelf products for Hedge Fund data and portfolio management; update returns from various sources like Bloomberg, Albourne, and HFR.

  • Maintain historical and planned portfolio excel sheets, collect manager letters and risk reports, and contribute to ad-hoc projects by gathering data from different sources.

Operational Due Diligence (ODD) Management
  • Manage the relationship with the external ODD research service provider.

  • Review ODD reports and audited financial statements of third-party Hedge Funds.

  • Coordinate and review background check for Hedge Fund key personnel.

  • Assist in the negotiation of side letter agreements with external Hedge Fund managers.

What We’re Looking For:
  • 3+ years of experience in either accounting, operations, or fund administration.

  • Financial industry experience required; Hedge Fund-specific experience preferred.

  • Bachelor’s degree required.

  • Detail-oriented with an ability to problem-solve.

  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize with minimal oversight.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; proactive communicator.

  • Strong Excel skills, ability to create macros
