Job summary

Seattle Public Schools seeks a dedicated special education classroom teacher to implement individualized instruction and support for students with diverse needs. The role operates under the building principal and program manager with appropriate staff assistance and follows district guidelines.

You will design lesson plans, monitor progress, and provide counseling and behavior support while collaborating with families and specialists to meet students' IEP goals.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of subject areas appropriate to assignment; effective behavior management techniques; rules and procedures for student safety.
• Proficiency in reading, writing and oral communications; ability to design and implement lesson plans for a wide range of student achievement.
• Ability to work with diverse students, families and staff and adapt to change while maintaining a safe learning environment.

Responsibilities

• Foster an educational environment; design instructional programs meeting individual student needs; prepare individual lesson plans and adapt as necessary.
• Implement established program objectives; attend in-service training; improve professional growth.
• Establish classroom policies; provide guidance, counseling, and discipline; make referrals as appropriate.
• Confers with students/parents/guardians and staff; maintain positive relationships to support achievement.
• Set classroom goals; evaluate and report student progress; prepare reports for parents/guardians.
• Direct non-certificated staff; monitor students' physical, emotional, hygienic needs as appropriate.
• Collect and interpret data; develop and evaluate IEPs; provide reports for administrative purposes.
• Attend staff meetings and district activities to accomplish position objectives.
