Job summary

The Office of the Illinois Secretary of State seeks a Personnel Specialist in the LOA/Workers Comp division at 501 S 2nd St, Springfield, IL. You will manage leaves of absence, including FMLA administration, and ensure compliance with applicable rules, policies, and collective bargaining agreements.

This role provides dedicated backup support to the Workers Compensation Coordinator and requires strong HR knowledge, confidentiality, and precise documentation skills.

Qualifications

• Requires completion of four years college and two years of professional personnel or human resources experience in a public or private organization.

Responsibilities

• Monitors and processes requests for Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA) leaves; collaborates with management, legal counsel, and medical professionals to obtain necessary information.
• Reviews non-FMLA leave requests for compliance with policies, rules, labor law and collective bargaining agreements; communicates decisions to employees.
• Responds to inquiries on Department of Personnel Rules, Merit Employment Code and related policies.
• Acts as backup to Workers' Compensation Coordinator, handling claims and coordinating with CMS Risk Management.
• Maintains confidential medical files and scans documents into the records system per retention schedules.
• Performs other duties as required.
