Job summary

Spherion Staffing, LLC seeks a skilled Flux-Core Welder (FCAW) for a heavy-equipment manufacturing team in Bryan, TX. You will fabricate, fit, and weld heavy structural assemblies per engineering drawings and AWS symbols.

Ideal candidates have 3–4 years FCAW experience, strong blueprint-reading skills, and the ability to pass a 3G/4G FCAW test. OSHA safety compliance and PPE adherence are required.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 3-4 years of industrial structural welding experience focusing on FCAW.
  • Ability to pass a hands-on shop weld test (e.g., 3G/4G FCAW on heavy plate or AWS D1.1 structural certification).
  • Strong capability to interpret complex engineering prints, shop drawings, BOMs and AWS welding symbols.
  • Proficient with hand tools, beveling tools, flame/plasma cutting, and angle grinders for weld prep and cleanup.

Responsibilities

  • Execute high-quality Flux-Core Arc Welding (FCAW) on heavy structural steel plates, tubing, and channel in various positions.
  • Set up, align, tack, and fit structural components according to drawings and AWS symbols.
  • Operate overhead cranes, rigging equipment, grinders, plasma cutters, and torch-cutting tools safely.
  • Inspect welds for defects and prepare joints for NDT when required.
  • Adjust wire feed speed, voltage and shielding gas to achieve optimal penetration and weld profiles.
  • Maintain a clean, hazard-free work environment in accordance with OSHA and PPE standards.

We are seeking a skilled and safety-focused Flux-Core Welder (FCAW) to join a heavy-equipment manufacturing team in Bryan, TX. In this role, you will be responsible for fabricating, fitting, and structural welding of heavy-duty steel weldments, including custom winch frames, A-frames, and structural assemblies for complex marine and oceanographic launch systems. The ideal candidate possesses strong blueprint-reading skills, expert control of flux-cored arc welding processes in all positions, and a dedication to high-quality craftsmanship capable of meeting strict structural and code standards.

  • Execute high-quality Flux-Core Arc Welding (FCAW) on heavy structural steel plate, tubing, and channel, primarily in flat, horizontal, vertical, and overhead positions.
  • Set up, align, tack, and fit structural components according to detailed engineering drawings, AWS welding symbols, and shop schematics.
  • Operate overhead cranes, rigging equipment, positioners, grinders, plasma cutters, and torch-cutting tools safely and efficiently.
  • Inspect completed welds for surface defects, porosity, cracks, or dimensional inaccuracies using weld gauges and visual inspection standards; prepare joints for NDT (Non-Destructive Testing) when required.
  • Adjust wire feed speed, voltage, shielding gas flow, and stick-out parameters to achieve optimal penetration and clean, consistent weld profiles.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and hazard-free work environment; strictly adhere to OSHA guidelines and company PPE safety standards.

Working hours: 6:00 AM - 6:00 PM

Skills:

  • Prior experience fabricating heavy structural steel assemblies, winches, hydraulic frames, or marine deck equipment.
  • Dual certification or proficiency in GMAW (MIG) and SMAW (Stick) welding processes.
  • Knowledge of Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) prep work, including Magnetic Particle (MT) or Dye Penetrant (PT) testing protocols.
  • High school diploma, vocational trade school completion, or formal apprenticeship in welding technology.

  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs, stand for long shifts, work in varying shop temperatures, and bend, kneel, or maneuver into tight weldments as needed.
