Job summary

Valmont Industries in Valley, NE seeks a Fluid Power & Controls Engineer to design hydraulic and pneumatic systems for custom capital equipment and automation platforms. You will develop schematics, ensure safety and reliability, and work closely with controls engineers to integrate systems across global operations.

The role emphasizes hands-on learning, with responsibilities from sizing calculations to CAD modeling and documentation, while traveling up to 10% domestically.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Mechatronics, Electrical Engineering or related field; or technical degree with equivalent experience.
• 3+ years of fluid design/manufacturing engineering/machine design experience.
• Experience leading teams and vendors as project manager or team lead.
• Proficiency with MS Word, Excel, Outlook, and MS Project.
• Autodesk Suite (AutoCAD, Inventor, Vault) or other 3D modelling software.
• Basic knowledge of robotics (Fanuc/Yaskawa/Kuka/Nachi).
• Familiarity with PLC hardware/software (Control Logix 5000, Factory Talk Studio).
• Willingness to travel up to 10%.

Responsibilities

• Design hydraulic and pneumatic systems for custom capital equipment and automation platforms.
• Develop hydraulic and pneumatic schematics and system layouts.
• Ensure safety measures, pressure containment and fail-safe operation.
• Perform system sizing and performance calculations (flow, pressure, duty cycle, heat load).
• Select fluid power components based on performance and lifecycle cost.
• Diagnose and resolve fluid/controls issues during build and commissioning.
• Collaborate with controls engineers for system integration and troubleshooting.
• Create and revise 3D CAD models and drawings for fabrication and assembly.
• Provide daily engineering support to manufacturing and fabrication teams.
• Support data collection for cost, material usage, and continuous improvement.
• Ensure project documents are accurately stored in digital systems.
• Work with cross-functional teams to meet goals and schedules.
