Job summary

Montgomery’s Furniture in Sioux Falls, SD is seeking a dedicated Project Manager for our Flooring Division to lead projects from planning through installation, coordinating scheduling, materials, installers, and clients to ensure on-time, within-budget delivery and top-quality results.

The ideal candidate has a bachelor’s degree or equivalent management experience, 2–3 years of PM experience, strong communication, and the ability to read blueprints.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent management experience.
  • 2-3 years of project management experience preferred.
  • Self-motivated with a strong work ethic.
  • Enthusiastic, positive attitude.
  • Ability to communicate well with others and possess good problem-solving ability.
  • Possess basic computer knowledge.
  • Availability to work weekends required, along with overall scheduling flexibility.
  • Must be able to interact with all levels of management.
  • Ability to read and understand blueprints.
  • Knowledge of floor covering preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Overseeing projects from initial planning through final installation.
  • Coordinate scheduling, material ordering, and installers to keep projects on track.
  • Prepare and present project estimates to Senior Manager for scope alignment.
  • Procure materials and plan production schedules for Montgomery’s products.
  • Manage relationships with contractor customers and ensure high-value deliverables.

Peek behind the scenes - a day in the life of a Project Manager:

As a Project Manager, you’ll take the lead in turning vision into reality—overseeing projects from initial planning through final installation. You’ll coordinate every detail, from scheduling and material ordering to working closely with installers, vendors, and clients to keep projects running smoothly. This role is perfect for someone who thrives on organization, problem-solving, and keeping multiple moving pieces aligned. Your ability to communicate effectively and stay ahead of challenges will ensure every project is delivered on time, within scope, and with exceptional quality that exceeds expectations.

Here’s what a day could look like:
  • Responsible for estimation through completion of floor covering projects.
  • Reviews specification and blueprint documents of a construction project to enable accurate estimation of goods for a particular project.
  • Creates estimates of materials and labor for project scopes of Montgomery’s products (ie: floor coverings, window coverings, lighting, wall coverings, countertops, etc.)
  • Presents project estimates to Senior Manager for review, makes amendments to estimates to match scope of work for customers.
  • Creates estimate documents to present to potential customers and contractors to win project bids.
  • Executes the procurement of materials, planning of production schedules, and execution of Installation sub-contractors for projects.
  • Builds relationships with our contractor customers and provides a high value deliverable to each project for the Montgomery’s brand.
  • Performs detailed project take-offs by analyzing plans, specifications, and blueprints to determine the quantities and types of materials and labor required
  • Places material orders, ensuring timely delivery and availability for project needs.
  • Manages and coordinates activities of independent installers, including all scheduling and monitoring of jobs.
  • Communicates clearly and directly with site supers and general contractors.
  • Work with the warehouse team and flooring team members in a way that promotes teamwork and cooperation, including filling in for others when absent from work.
  • Oversees the procurement, inventory, and distribution of materials, as well as coordinating logistics operations
  • Oversees the planning, execution, and completion of projects.
  • Plans and implements projects from initiation to closure, ensuring adherence to timelines, budgets, and quality standards.
  • Performs various duties as assigned.
