Job description

Floor Inspector - 2nd Shift

Location: Cudahy, WI (Onsite)

Employment Type: Full-Time

About the Role

Milwaukee Cylinder is seeking a self-directed and detail-oriented Floor Inspector to support second-shift manufacturing operations. This role is responsible for maintaining product quality standards and verifying that CNC-machined components meet engineering specifications. Working independently when day-shift leadership is off-site, the Floor Inspector will perform dimensional and visual inspections, investigate discrepancies, document nonconforming material, and communicate quality trends to production and quality leadership.

What You'll Do
  • Conduct first-article, in-process, final dimensional, and visual inspections of CNC-milled and turned components across second-shift production.
  • Use micrometers, calipers, height gauges, dial indicators, thread gauges, surface plates, and other precision instruments to verify part conformance.
  • Read and interpret engineering drawings, technical specifications, blueprints, and GD&T callouts to determine inspection requirements.
  • Identify, isolate, and quarantine out-of-tolerance material, then document findings through internal non-conformance material reports (NCMRs).
  • Investigate machining discrepancies, assess potential causes, and make sound initial quality dispositions without direct supervision.
  • Maintain accurate inspection logs and prepare clear shift-handover notes covering machine performance, quality trends, and active issues.
  • Provide objective, actionable feedback to machinists and production personnel to correct variances and prevent recurring defects.
Must-Have Skills and Experience

(These are required for consideration.)

  • 3 to 5 years of combined experience in a precision CNC manufacturing environment.
  • Dedicated quality inspection experience or extensive hands-on CNC machining experience that included formal quality control responsibilities.
  • Advanced ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, technical specifications, and GD&T callouts.
  • Proficiency with standard mechanical inspection tools and surface plate setups.
  • Strong understanding of CNC machining processes, tooling behavior, cutting parameters, and common industrial metals.
  • Ability to work independently, exercise sound judgment, and troubleshoot quality issues in an off-shift manufacturing environment.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Basic computer proficiency.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
Nice-to-Have Skills

(These are preferred but not required.)

  • Technical certification or associate degree in machining, manufacturing technology, or quality control.
  • Experience completing first-article inspections and documenting NCMRs.
  • Experience working in a union manufacturing environment.
Who You Are
  • You are dependable and comfortable making quality decisions without direct supervision.
  • You approach inspections methodically and take ownership of accurate, complete documentation.
  • You communicate clearly with machinists, production employees, and day-shift leadership.
  • You can identify problems, separate facts from assumptions, and provide practical feedback that supports corrective action.
