Job summary

Fairview Health Services is seeking a Floor Care Technician for the Environmental Services team at Fairview University Hospital – East Bank in Minneapolis, MN. This casual, as-needed role offers shifts during Day, Evening, and Night periods with AFSCME Local 1164 representation.

You will maintain floors, operate floor care equipment, and follow infection prevention and safety protocols in a fast-paced healthcare environment. Prior floor care experience is preferred.

Qualifications

• SC Johnson’s Professional 2000 Series certification with competency assessment within 60 days.
• High School diploma/GED preferred but not required.
• Floor care training and experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Maintains hard surface and carpeted floors.
• Operates floor care equipment and applies seal/finish.
• Follows infection prevention and safety protocols.
• Moves furniture and cleans upholstery surfaces.

Job Overview

Fairview is looking to hire a Floor Care Technician to join our Environmental Services team at Fairview University Hospital – East Bank in Minneapolis, MN. This is a casual position, meaning hours are scheduled on an as-needed basis, with opportunities to pick up available shifts based on department needs. This position is represented by AFSCME Local 1164.

Available CASUAL Shifts:

• Day: 6:00 AM – 2:30 PM

• Evening: 4:00 PM – 12:30 AM

• Night: 11:00 PM – 7:30 AM

In this role, you will help maintain a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for patients, visitors, and staff by performing specialized floor care throughout the hospital. Responsibilities include stripping, waxing, buffing, polishing, and maintaining various floor surfaces, operating floor care equipment, and following established cleaning, infection prevention, and safety protocols.

The ideal candidate is dependable, detail-oriented, and comfortable working independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced healthcare environment. Previous experience with floor care equipment, floor waxing, and commercial or healthcare cleaning is preferred.

Cleans, refinishes and maintains floors in facility. Performs project work and tasks as performed by Environmental Services Aides/Housekeeping Aides/Custodians as assigned. Maintains a safe, clean and orderly environment for patients, employees and visitors.

Responsibilities

• Maintains hard surface and carpeted floors
• Uses good technique to clean and refinish hard surface floors and extraction of carpeted floors
• Applies appropriate seal and finish to floors
• Uses appropriate equipment for the task
• Properly uses caution signs and controls traffic
• Properly cleans upholstered surfaces
• Moves furniture
• Works in cooperative courteous manner with others to accomplish results
• Performs cleaning assignments per department procedures and protocols
• Uses proper chemical dilution rations
• Follows infection control practices and procedures
• Follows proper procedure for assigned area
• Completes assignments in a timely manner
• Uses proper equipment and supplies for task
• Replenishes supplies
• Properly handles soiled and clean linens in assigned areas
• Properly handles and disposes of wasteUses safe work practices i.e. floor signs, use of gloves, follow hazard signs/symbols
• Remains flexible to change assignments as needed
• Contributes process improvement ideas/suggestions
• Properly documents work assignments
• Demonstrates proper emergency and security response
• Takes immediate action as required to assist with emergency codes
• Unlocks and secures access to building as directed
• Cleans emergency spills as needed
• Demonstrates proper use and care of equipment
• Uses proper equipment for assignment/task
• Properly cares for equipment and takes action for preventive maintenance
• Reports malfunctioning equipment
• Uses safety precautions

Preferred Qualifications

• High School diploma/GED
• Previous Housekeeping/Environmental Service experience.
• Floor care training and experience.
