Job summary

Brooklyn Museum is seeking a part-time Visitor Experience Floor Associate to welcome guests and ensure an inclusive, engaging experience during the Art of Manga exhibition. You will handle admissions, Coat Check, and wayfinding while staying informed on exhibitions and program offerings.

This is a temporary role through March 7, 2027. The ideal candidate is friendly, dependable, and adaptable, thriving in a fast-paced team environment with shifts including weekends.

Qualifications

  • Experience in fast-paced, public-facing roles.
  • Ability to handle cash and operate a POS.
  • Comfort communicating ticketing policies clearly and politely.

  • Physical ability to stand for long periods and lift up to 20 lbs.

Responsibilities

  • Greet visitors warmly and communicate exhibition guidelines and events.
  • Sell admission, event tickets, and memberships using POS, handling cash and cards.
  • Manage visitor check-in and timed entry into exhibitions and programs.
  • Monitor lines for ticketed exhibitions to ensure smooth entry.
  • Staff Coat Check and organize visitor belongings.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of exhibitions, programming, and Membership benefits.
  • Provide directions and assistance to help visitors navigate the building.
  • Assist with special events, scanning tickets and guest services beyond regular hours.
  • Participate in daily morning shift meetings and review notes to stay informed.
  • Perform other duties related to Visitor Services as needed.

About The Role

As a Visitor Experience Floor Associate at the Brooklyn Museum, you’ll play a vital role in welcoming guests and ensuring a smooth, inclusive, and engaging experience for all who enter our doors. From managing entry to exhibitions and processing admission to staffing Coat Check and providing wayfinding assistance, you’ll be on the front lines of our commitment to hospitality, access, and education. This is a temporary, part-time position for the duration of our special exhibition Art of Manga, running through March 7, 2027. The ideal candidate is friendly, dependable, adaptable, and thrives in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment. You’ll be part of a collaborative department dedicated to ensuring every visitor feels seen, supported, and inspired.

Responsibilities
  • Greet all visitors with warmth and professionalism while clearly communicating exhibition guidelines, ticketing policies, daily events, and wayfinding information
  • Sell Museum admission, event tickets, and Memberships using the point-of-sale system, processing both cash and credit card transactions
  • Manage visitor check-in and timed entry into exhibitions and program spaces
  • Monitor and manage lines for ticketed exhibitions and events, ensuring efficient entry and a positive experience for guests
  • Staff Coat Check by carefully storing, retrieving, and organizing visitor belongings
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of Museum exhibitions, programming, Membership benefits, events, and operational updates
  • Provide directions and general assistance to help visitors navigate the building comfortably
  • Scan tickets and assist with visitor services during special events, including those held outside regular Museum hours (shifts assigned on a rotating basis)
  • Participate in daily Morning Meetings at the start of each shift
  • Review daily shift notes and attend staff meetings to stay informed and aligned
  • Perform other duties reasonably related to the responsibilities described above
Qualifications
  • Strong customer service skills in a fast-paced, public-facing environment
  • Positive approach and ability to work well on a team
  • Experience handling cash and operating a POS system
  • Ability to learn and communicate detailed ticketing policies effectively
  • Commitment to creating an inclusive and welcoming environment for all visitors
  • Physical ability to stand for long periods and lift up to 20 lbs
  • Ability to communicate Museum policies in a friendly but firm manner to ensure safety and respect for all guests
  • Fluency in a language other than English a plus
  • Interest in the arts or museum field
  • Familiarity with Brooklyn Museum exhibitions and programming
  • High school diploma or equivalent

Schedule

3 days a week for a total of 21 hours per week is the minimum. Saturday and Sunday shifts are mandatory and third day to be discussed/determined. Additional hours may be assigned/requested based on special events at the Museum. The First Saturday events and quarterly training session are mandatory shifts.
