Job Title: Floating Assistant Teacher Department: Childcare

Reports to: Lead Teacher Effective Date: March 2025

Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8:00am - 5:00pm Remote Position: No

Job Summary:

Manage ongoing programming in assigned classroom(s) in a professional and confidential manner and in a way which incorporates the developmental/culturally sensitive philosophy of the Center and creates an inclusive learning environment to ensure the highest quality of care for children. Meet compliance with the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) standards and Department of Early Education and Care (DEEC), and Massachusetts health and safety regulations.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • None

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Assist in planning, implementing and maintaining Teaching Strategies Gold and creating an environment where children can learn and grow at their own pace, interact comfortably with adults, and have opportunity to participate in individual and group (small and large) activities as appropriate to program area.
  • Supervise children in play and structured activities.
  • Maintain a safe and clean environment for children; perform light housekeeping duties as needed.
  • Greet Parents daily; communicate information only as requested by supervisor.
  • Assist in preparing and maintaining classroom records as requested.
  • Attending scheduled staff meetings; maintain Health and Safety, CPR and First Aid certification; complete all required training each year as required by DEEC and QRIS.
  • Develop and follow the Annual Individual Professional Development Plan (IPDP).
  • Maintain EEC Professional Qualifications (PQ) Registry.
  • Cover planning and lunch breaks for staff.
  • Maintain student/teacher ratios at all times.
  • Perform other duties as requested.

Education and Experience:

Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods of sitting, standing, and walking throughout the classroom.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at a time.
  • Must be able to bend, kneel, or squat to be at eye level with children.
  • Run or move quickly to respond to emergency situations
  • Requires good physical stamina and agility
