New Narrative is seeking a Prep Cook to support our Commercial Kitchen team in Portland, Oregon. This seasonal role runs through mid-January 2027 with potential to extend or become permanent based on business needs.

Responsibilities include keeping a clean, sanitary workspace, assisting Cooks and the Catering Manager with prep, and following safety regulations. Must pass a background check and hold an Oregon Food Handler’s Card.

This is seasonal opportunity during the Holiday season slated to last till mid January of 2027. Potential for the role to extend or become permanent based on business need. Shift: Monday - Friday; 8:00am - 4:30pm Pay Rate: $21.50/hr can increase DOE

Purpose

The primary responsibility of this position is to ensure a safe, clean and sanitary workspace in the Commercial Kitchen. The Prep Cook provides support to the Cooks and Catering Manager as needed.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Washes dishes as they are brought in.
• Maintains a clean and sanitary workspace at all times.
• Observes safety regulations and procedures.
• Maintains the cleanliness and safety of kitchen and of food storage areas.
• Assists Cooks and Catering Manager with prep work, wrapping, and storage as needed.
• Safely practices heavy lifting and carrying with the help of another person if necessary.
• Works for long periods on feet, including standing, walking, and stair climbing
• Repetitive movements such as pushing, pulling, bending, some stooping and twisting.
• Communicates clearly, including reading, writing and speaking
• Works around and with heat sources such as oven and stovetop.
• Works around and with cleaning agents such as bleach and other caustic chemicals.
• Works around and with sharp objects such as knives.
• Completes daily cleaning of all surfaces including sinks, stovetops and sides, refrigerators on both interior and exterior, walls, counters and flooring.
• Completes daily closing duties, including: Cleaning and sanitizing of kitchen equipment such as ovens, grills, etc.
• Sweeping and mopping
• Works efficiently in a high pace and potentially stressful environment.
• Interacts in a positive and professional manner with other employees, management, and consumers.
• Observes a fixed work schedule, and communicates any deviations from this schedule to a supervisor in advance.
• Completes other tasks as assigned by supervisor in a timely manner.
• Observe all other Luke-Dorf, Inc. policies and procedures.

Qualifications

• Employee must be able to pass a criminal background check
• Employee must maintain Oregon Food Handler’s Card
• Employee must have previous experience working in the food service industry
• Employee must have demonstrated knife skills, and safely handle knives and other sharp kitchen instruments
