Job description
A Floating teacher at The Goddard School is responsible for helping to establish and maintain a safe, healthy and nurturing learning environment. A Resource is responsible for working with all the staff members as per the responsibilities assigned by the management.
Qualifications:
A Floater Staff must meet the qualifications of:
- The ability to understand and support the education program using “learning through play” philosophy.
- The ability to interact closely with children at their level, within sight and sound supervision at all times.
- The ability to change children’s diapers and/or assist in toileting (where necessary).
- The ability to communicate effectively and professionally with school personnel, children and parents.
- The ability to handle crisis situations, including assisting in evacuating the building during emergencies.
- The ability to safely walk children from room to room or playground or an outdoor area.
- Willingness to clean and sanitize surfaces and learning materials regularly and as needed.
- Ability to break teachers during nap times while supervising children actively at all times.
- Ability to obtain resources to support learning environment in the classrooms.
- Ability to use iPads for assisting teachers with daily reports.
A Floater Staff must meet one of the following educational requirements:
- High School Diploma with at least 12 credits in Early Childhood Development or related field.
- A Child Development Certificate or higher preferred.
Responsibilities:
The Floater/Assistant teacher’s responsibilities include assisting the lead teacher in implementing the lead teacher’s responsibilities including but not limited to the following:
- Cleaning and sanitizing.
- Active supervision.
- Helping teacher with resources.
- Assisting food staff with distribution.
- Opening and closing checklists.
- Ensuring that classroom equipment is in good repair.
- Understanding and implementing The Goddard School emergency procedure(s).
- Promoting healthy eating practices at lunch and snack times.
- Ensuring that children are always within state ratio requirements.
- Performing minor cleaning responsibilities (e.g., spills) immediately.
- Performing major cleaning during times when children are not present.
- Understanding and adhering to the GSI Behavior Policy.
- Encouraging empathetic and respectful feelings for others, as well as the environment, through positive modeling.
- Respecting cultural and ethnic diversity.
- Promoting “learning through play” philosophy and educational objectives.

Schedule:
- Monday to Friday: 7 AM to 1 PM.
