Job summary

CPCD is seeking a Floater Teacher Assistant to join our team in Colorado Springs. The role supports classroom staff, travels between classrooms, ensuring safe, healthy learning environments and development of school readiness skills.

Requires a High School diploma or GED, CDA or Level II, transport access, First Aid/CPR, ability to lift up to 40 pounds, and successful pre-employment checks. Position begins Sept 14 and offers benefits and tuition assistance.

Responsibilities

  • Travel to different classrooms/sites as part of regular schedule duties.

Assists classroom Team in maintaining a safe, healthy, high-quality learning experiences and environments that advances the development of the whole child. Complies with all CPCD policies and procedures, Head Start Performance Standards, Colorado Department of Human Services licensing requirements and the Colorado Quality Standards for Early childhood Education Services. Facilitates a balance of group and individualized experiences to promote the development of school readiness skills as defined by CPCD’s School Readiness Action Plan. Teacher Assistant Floater will be required to travel among classrooms/sites as directed by the CD Supervisor.

  • This position is set to begin on September 14th
  • Work Scheduled for 40 Hours a Week
Pay Scale
  • Step 1: High school diploma or equivalent & relevant experience - $17.59/hr.
  • Step 2: Age appropriate CDA or Level II credential - $19.30/hr.
  • Step 3: Colorado Department of Human Services Director Qualification (DQ)/ Level 3 - $20.28/hr.
  • Step 4: Colorado Department of Human Services Director Qualification (DQ)/ Level 3 and 12 credit hours in ECE (can include Pyramid Plus and EQIT) - $21.28/hr.
  • Step 5: Associate Degree in ECE or Related Field (AA + 24 credit hours in ECE) - $22.34/hr.

Requirements
Required
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Child Development Associate (CDA) credential or Early Childhood Professional Credential Level II (PDIS) required. Candidates who do not currently hold the required credential must be willing to obtain it within two (2) years of hire.
  • Must have access to reliable transportation to perform functions of the job including being able to go to other locations during the workday, and must maintain a minimum liability insurance as determined by the State of Colorado.
  • Must obtain First Aid, CPR, within 1 year of employment and maintain as required.
  • Must be able to lift/carry/manipulate up to 40 pounds.
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment physical examination, TB test, drug test (including marijuana), and background check in accordance with the Office of Head Start Performance Standards and Childcare Licensing. (Physical examination and TB test thereafter as required).
Preferred
  • At least one year of successful work experience with children birth to age five.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish or other language relevant to the community served)
  • PDIS level II - DQ
Essential Functions, Duties, And Responsibilities
  • Will travel to different classrooms/sites as part of your regular schedule duties.
  • Assists Classroom staff with duties as delegated and accepts supervision.
  • Supports classroom routine and safety protocols as directed by CD Supervisor and the Classroom Team. Will collect observations as directed by the CR staff. Ensures that the classroom environment (including outdoors) is clean, safe and appropriate, in accordance with Head Start Performance Standards, DHS Licensing, Health and Safety requirements, USDA food and sanitization requirements and CPCD’s policies and procedures.
  • Demonstrates acceptance of all children (and their families) with a positive attitude, flexibility, and adaptability
  • Adheres to CPCD’s policy of confidentiality.
  • As required: Assists children with child safety restraints to ensure all straps are securely connected and adjusted, and ensures that bus rules are followed.
  • Follows all safety guidelines and curriculum while riding the bus, reports behavior challenges to the classroom teacher, and collaborates with TT on solution strategies.
  • Demonstrates a positive attitude, flexibility, and adaptability.
  • Maintains interaction with children, families, staff, and community partners that is warm, sensitive, honest, natural, calm, respectful, and appropriate.
  • Presents self as a professional employee and support of CPCD’s mission at all times.
  • Maintains all required credentials, education requirements, and training per CPCD policies.
