Job summary

CPCD is seeking a Center Assistant to support daily operations in early childhood classrooms and provide administrative help where needed. The role promotes a welcoming, safe, and engaging learning environment for children and families.

The position requires a high school diploma or equivalent, and you must obtain a CDA or equivalent within two years. CPR/first aid certification is required within the first year. A pre-employment process includes background checks and TB screening.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains accurate and up-to-date child files and logs to comply with licensing.
  • Ensures postings are current and the center remains in health and safety compliance.
  • Coordinates and communicates with classroom teams, district personnel, and partners.
  • Assists in classrooms to ensure coverage during breaks or absences.
  • Upholds confidentiality and professional communication with families and staff.

Job Description

The Center Assistant supports the daily operations of early childhood education classrooms by providing administrative support and assistance in classrooms as needed. This role helps maintain smooth classroom/center functioning, ensures coverage during staff absences and breaks, and promotes a welcoming, safe, and engaging learning environment for children and families.

Pay Scale
  • Step 1: High school diploma or equivalent & relevant experience – $17.59/hr.
  • Step 2: Age appropriate CDA or Level II credential – $19.30/hr.
  • Step 3: Colorado Department of Human Services Director Qualification (DQ)/ Level 3 – $20.28/hr.
  • Step 4: Colorado Department of Human Services Director Qualification (DQ)/ Level 3 and 12 credit hours in ECE (can include Pyramid Plus and EQIT) – $21.28/hr.
  • Step 5: Associate Degree in ECE or Related Field (AA + 24 credit hours in ECE) – $22.34/hr.

Requirements
Required:
  • HS diploma or equivalent
  • Must obtain CDA Qualification or equivalent within 2 years of employment.
  • Experience working with groups of children up to age 5, preferably in an educational or childcare setting Must obtain and maintain adult/infant CPR and first aid certification within the first year of employment.
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment physical examination, TB risk assessment, drug test (including marijuana), and background check in accordance with the Office of Head Start Performance Standards and Childcare Licensing. (Physical examination and TB test thereafter as required).
  • Must have access to reliable transportation and if using a personal vehicle, must maintain minimum liability insurance as determined by the State of Colorado.
Preferred
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish or other language relevant to the community served)
Essential Functions, Duties, And Responsibilities
Administrative and Classroom Support:
  • Maintains accurate and up-to-date child files, visitor logs, and required documentation to ensure compliance with childcare licensing and program requirements.
  • Ensures all required postings are current and visible, and that the center remains in compliance with health, safety, and licensing regulations.
  • Coordinates and communicates effectively with classroom teams, school district personnel, and building partners.
  • Assists in classrooms as needed to ensure coverage during breaks, absences, or high-need situations, supporting a nurturing and developmentally appropriate environment for all children.
  • Upholds confidentiality and program integrity in all interactions, documentation, and responsibilities.
  • Demonstrates a positive, flexible, and supportive attitude toward all children, families, and staff.
  • Maintains respectful, professional communication and relationships with children, families, staff, and community partners.
  • Models professionalism and represents CPCD’s mission, vision, and values at all times.
  • Other duties as requested by Child Development Supervisor.
