Job Description

Daily assignment to be determined by Student Nutrition Coordinator.

6 hours per day, 182 days in the 2026/2027 school year.

Position Goal: The Cook is responsible for preparing and serving balanced, nutritious, and appealing meals in compliance with federal, state, and district nutritional standards. The position ensures that meals are nutritious, appealing, and served in a positive environment that supports student well‑being and academic success. The Cook also ensures the safe, efficient, and sanitary operation of a school‑based cafeteria while promoting a positive environment that promotes student well‑being and academic success.

Required Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED.
• Demonstrated knowledge of student nutritional programs and school meal preparation.
• Proficient in basic computer applications (Word, Excel, and point‑of‑sale systems).
• Physically able to perform all required duties safely and effectively.
• Demonstrated commitment to professional growth and development in food service operations.
• Valid and current New Mexico driver’s license.

Preferred Qualifications

• Certification in Food Safety for New Mexico (SERV Safe or equivalent).
• Two or more years of experience working in a school cafeteria or food service environment.
• Experience with inventory control, point of sale systems, and kitchen equipment operation.
• Knowledge of USDA Child Nutrition Programs, health codes, and state food service regulations.

Essential Duties and Performance Responsibilities

• Must be willing to drive district vehicle to all school sites as assigned by Student Nutrition Coordinator.
