Job summary

MedStar Health is seeking a Medical Assistant to float across Prince Frederick and Waldorf locations, performing clinical and clerical tasks under physician or RN supervision. The role supports patient exams, vital signs, venipuncture, vaccine administration, and care coordination across sites.

The position requires a Medical Assistant credential or MA program completion, CPR/BLS, CMA/RMA preferred, and at least 6 months in ambulatory care for some departments.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program preferred.
• Experience: Less than 1 year (6 months) in ambulatory care preferred; Cardiology sites require 6 months in ambulatory care or related degree.

Responsibilities

• Contributes to department goals and ensures compliance with policies, procedures, quality and safety standards.
• Assists providers with patient preparation, exams, and education; supports team for optimal patient flow; provides clerical support.
• Participates in daily team huddles and screens patients for preventive care needs and barriers to care.
• Performs patient screening and coaching on disease management and identifies behavioral health needs.
• Reports patient safety issues per MedStar Health protocols and engages in performance improvement initiatives.
• Maintains regulatory/quality standards through inventory, temperature logs, and documentation in EMR.
• Supports population health activities and assists with care coordination and follow-up tasks.
• Performs select point-of-care testing and other procedures under supervision as required.
• Documents activities in EMR and coordinates follow-up, referrals, and tests.
• Provides escort and chaperoning as needed; participates in training and infection control activities.
• Floats to other sites and attends scheduled meetings for safety and quality training.
