The U.S. Air Force seeks a Flight Surgeon to serve as primary care physician for pilots and aircrew, leading a team to implement preventive medicine to keep Airmen flying.

Qualifications

  • Board certification current in a primary care specialty with proof of primary care privileges for 12 months prior to commissioning.
  • Flight physical (USAFA Flying Class II) completed.
  • AMP course completed (~nine weeks).
  • Officer Training School completed (8 weeks).
  • US citizen between 18 and 47 years old.
  • Willingness to relocate.

  • Determine fitness for flying and special duties and evaluate environments for health hazards.
  • Participate in flying missions to observe aeromedical issues.
  • Develop and manage preventive medicine programs for flight personnel.

  • Provide advice on aeromedical evacuation and serve on aviation mishap boards.
  • Serve as liaison between flying squadrons and medical services.

Position Summary Pilots, aircrew and special-duty operators are exposed to extreme environments in air, space, and battle. As an Air Force Flight Surgeon, you will serve as the primary care physician for these extraordinary Airmen.   • Regularly participate in flying missions to observe and advise on aeromedical issues
  • Develop and manage preventive medicine programs, including the education of flight personnel in healthy lifestyles
  • Establish procedures for managing casualties in aviation accidents and other disasters
  • Provide advise on aeromedical evacuation and serve on aviation mishap investigation boards
  • Serve as the liaison between flying squadrons and medical services
Qualifications

To be considered, you must meet the following requirements:

  • Completion of a U.S. residency at a fully accredited residency program with subsequent board certification in that primary specialty
  • Board certification must be current and in a primary care specialty such as family, emergency, pediatrics, internal medicine or by the ABPM, and must show proof of primary care privileges for the 12 months directly preceding commissioning.
  • Completion of a flight physical (USAF Flying Class II)
  • Completion of the Aerospace Medicine Primary (AMP) course (~nine weeks)
  • Completion of eight-week Officer Training School
  • Must be a U.S. citizen between the ages of 18 and 47
  • Must be willing to relocate
