Job summary

U.S. Air Force is seeking a Flight Surgeon (MD/DO) for a full-time role in a hospital setting. You will serve as the primary care physician for aircrew and lead a team to develop preventive practices to keep Airmen flying.

The position requires residency with board certification in a primary specialty, USAF Flying Class II, AMP course, and completion of Officer Training School. Excellent healthcare benefits and opportunities for travel and advancement are offered.

Qualifications

• MD/DO degree required.
• Completion of a U.S. residency with board certification in a primary specialty.
• Current board certification in a primary care field (family, emergency, pediatrics, internal medicine or ABPM).
• Flight physical (USAF Flying Class II) completed.
• Aerospace Medicine Primary (AMP) course completed (~9 weeks).
• Completion of eight-week Officer Training School.
• Must be a U.S. citizen aged 18–47.
• Must be willing to relocate.

Responsibilities

• Conduct medical examinations and provide care for air and missile crews
• Determine fitness for flying and special duties and evaluate environments to detect health hazards
• Regularly participate in flying missions to observe aeromedical issues
• Develop and manage preventive medicine programs and educate flight personnel in healthy lifestyles
• Establish procedures for managing casualties in aviation accidents and disasters
• Advise on aeromedical evacuation and serve on aviation mishap investigation boards
• Liaise between flying squadrons and medical services

Qualifications

To be considered, you must meet the following requirements:

• Completion of a U.S. residency at a fully accredited residency program with subsequent board certification in that primary specialty
• Board certification must be current and in a primary care specialty such as family, emergency, pediatrics, internal medicine or by the ABPM, and must show proof of primary care privileges for the 12 months directly preceding commissioning.
• Completion of a flight physical (USAF Flying Class II)
• Completion of the Aerospace Medicine Primary (AMP) course (~nine weeks)
• Completion of eight-week Officer Training School
• Must be a U.S. citizen between the ages of 18 and 47
• Must be willing to relocate
