Job summary

United States Air Force is seeking a Flight Surgeon to serve as the primary care physician for aircrew and special-duty operators in high-stress environments. You will lead a team to develop, manage and implement preventive practices to keep Airmen flying.

Physicians enter as commissioned officers and benefit from extensive healthcare, retirement programs and opportunities for travel. Responsibilities include career-long aviation medicine duties and coordination with medical services.

Qualifications

• Completion of U.S. residency with board certification in primary specialty.
• Board certification must be current in a primary care field such as family, emergency, pediatrics, internal medicine (ABPM).
• Must have a USAF Flying Class II flight physical and AMP course completion.
• Completion of Officer Training School is required.
• Must be a U.S. citizen aged 18–47 and willing to relocate.

• Conduct medical examinations and provide care for air and missile crews.
• Determine fitness for flying and special duties and evaluate environments to detect health hazards.
• Participate in flying missions to observe and advise on aeromedical issues.
• Develop and manage preventive medicine programs and educate flight personnel on healthy lifestyles.
• Establish procedures for managing casualties in aviation accidents and other disasters.
• Provide advice on aeromedical evacuation and serve on aviation mishap boards.
• Serve as liaison between flying squadrons and medical services.

• Regularly participate in flying missions to observe and advise on aeromedical issues
• Develop and manage preventive medicine programs, including the education of flight personnel in healthy lifestyles
• Establish procedures for managing casualties in aviation accidents and other disasters
• Provide advise on aeromedical evacuation and serve on aviation mishap investigation boards
• Serve as the liaison between flying squadrons and medical services

Qualifications

To be considered, you must meet the following requirements:

• Completion of a U.S. residency at a fully accredited residency program with subsequent board certification in that primary specialty
• Board certification must be current and in a primary care specialty such as family, emergency, pediatrics, internal medicine or by the ABPM, and must show proof of primary care privileges for the 12 months directly preceding commissioning.
• Completion of a flight physical (USAF Flying Class II)
• Completion of the Aerospace Medicine Primary (AMP) course (~nine weeks)
• Completion of eight-week Officer Training School
• Must be a U.S. citizen between the ages of 18 and 47
• Must be willing to relocate
