Job summary

The United States Air Force seeks a Flight Surgeon to serve as the primary care physician for aircrew and special‑duty operators, leading a team to develop preventive practices for high‑risk environments in air, space, and combat contexts.

You will oversee examinations, ensure fitness for flying, and participate in aeromedical missions while advancing medical readiness and patient care across the force.

Qualifications

• Completion of U.S. residency with board certification in a primary specialty.
• Current board certification in a primary care specialty (e.g., family, emergency, pediatrics, internal medicine).
• Completed USAF Flying Class II flight physical.
• Completion of the Aerospace Medicine Primary (AMP) course and Officer Training School.

Responsibilities

• Conduct medical examinations and provide care for air and missile crews.
• Determine fitness for flying and special duties; evaluate health hazards in living and working environments.
• Regularly participate in flying missions to observe aeromedical issues.
• Develop and manage preventive medicine programs; educate flight personnel in healthy lifestyles.
• Establish procedures for managing casualties in aviation accidents and other disasters.
• Provide advice on aeromedical evacuation and serve on aviation mishap investigation boards.
• Liaise between flying squadrons and medical services.
