Job summary

The United States Air Force is seeking a flight surgeon (MD/DO) to serve as primary care physician for aircrew in a hospital environment. The role also leads a dedicated team to develop preventive medical practices to keep Airmen flying.

Responsibilities include conducting examinations, determining fitness for flying, and advising on aeromedical issues; extensive benefits are offered, including healthcare, retirement programs, and opportunities for travel.

Qualifications

• MD/DO degree from an accredited medical program.
• Completion of a U.S. residency with board certification.
• Board certification current in primary care (e.g., family, emergency, pediatrics, internal medicine).
• Flight physical (USAF Flying Class II) completed.
• Aerospace Medicine Primary course completed.
• Eight-week Officer Training School completed.
• U.S. citizen, 18–47 years old, and willing to relocate.

Responsibilities

• Conduct medical examinations and provide care for air and missile crews.
• Determine fitness for flying and special duties as well as evaluating living and working environments to detect and control health hazards.
• Regularly participate in flying missions to observe and advise on aeromedical issues.
• Develop and manage preventive medicine programs, including education of flight personnel in healthy lifestyles.
• Establish procedures for managing casualties in aviation accidents and other disasters.
• Provide advice on aeromedical evacuation and serve on aviation mishap investigation boards.
• Serve as the liaison between flying squadrons and medical services.
