Job summary

Muon Space seeks a Flight Software Engineer to design, develop, integrate, and test software that runs on our orbiting satellites. The role covers bare-metal/RTOS embedded devices and collaboration with hardware and cloud backends, with remote or San Jose headquarters option.

Required: advanced degree in CS/EE, 7+ years in software, strong C/C++, embedded systems, RTOS, hardware integration, and a current TS clearance. Experience in government/defense projects is preferred.

Qualifications

• 7+ years experience as a software engineer in a team environment.
• Strong C/C++ programming, with familiarity of other languages.
• Embedded systems fundamentals: resource-efficient design, low-level drivers, IRQ handling, RTOS.
• Integration and control of external hardware devices.
• Read and understand hardware data sheets.
• Excellent communication and presentation skills.
• Experience working on government/defense projects.
• Current TS security clearance.

Responsibilities

• Define and build Muon’s satellite bus and payload platform.
• Translate concepts into design and implementations, supporting on-orbit operations.
• Design and support the embedded software environment for flight systems.
• Evaluate technologies for our software foundation.
• Provide technical leadership across projects and teams.
• Develop application, platform, and driver functionality in flight software.
• Integrate compute and peripheral subsystems in software and hardware.
• Develop strategy documents for architecture and shared services.
• Collaborate with hardware and software teams on design and bring-up.
