Job summary

Intuitive Machines is seeking a Flight Software Engineer to support the Landsat 10 mission under the OMES III contract at NASA Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, MD. The role requires hybrid on-site work and the ability to obtain a NASA badge.

You will design, develop, integrate, test, and maintain mission-critical flight software for spacecraft avionics, participate in reviews, and collaborate with NASA civil servants, flight software developers, systems engineers, and hardware teams.

Responsibilities

About the Position:

Intuitive Machines is seeking a Flight Software Engineer to support the Landsat 10 mission under the OMES III contract at NASA Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, MD. This position requires hybrid on-site support and the ability to obtain and maintain a NASA badge.

The selected candidate will join a multidisciplinary flight software team responsible for the development, integration, test, verification, and sustainment of mission-critical spacecraft flight software supporting one of NASA's flagship Earth observation missions.

The successful candidate will participate in the full software development lifecycle, from requirements development through flight software delivery, integration, system testing, launch support, and on-orbit operations. This position offers the opportunity to work alongside NASA civil servants, flight software developers, systems engineers, software assurance organizations, and spacecraft hardware teams in the development of highly reliable spaceflight systems.

Responsibilities:

• Design, develop, integrate, and test embedded flight software for spacecraft avionics systems.
• Support all phases of the software lifecycle, including requirements analysis, architecture design, implementation, unit testing, integration, verification, validation, and maintenance.
• Develop software for real-time spacecraft applications operating on embedded processors and flight-qualified operating systems.
• Participate in software peer reviews, design reviews, and formal NASA lifecycle reviews.
• Collaborate with hardware engineers, systems engineers, mission operations personnel, and software assurance teams.
• Support software integration activities with spacecraft avionics and communications hardware.
• Develop and maintain software documentation, test procedures, verification reports, and technical memoranda.
• Investigate software anomalies and support troubleshooting efforts during integration and test activities.
• Support Independent Verification & Validation (IV&V), Software Quality Assurance (SQA), and mission assurance activities.
• Assist with flight software readiness assessments and mission operations support as required.

Required Qualifications & Experience :

Education:

Bachelor’s degree in computer engineering, Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical discipline.

Experience

• 15+ years of experience developing software for embedded or real-time systems.
• Familiarity with NPR 7150.2
• Experience supporting the complete software development lifecycle from requirements through acceptance testing.
• Experience developing software within structured engineering processes utilizing industry-recognized standards.

Desired Qualifications

• Experience supporting NASA, DoD, NOAA, or commercial spaceflight programs.
• Flight software development experience for spacecraft, instruments, or ground-support systems.
• Familiarity with software acquisition and government flight projects.
• Experience using:
• IBM DOORS or equivalent requirements management tools
• TDMS or equivalent configuration/data management systems
• Git, SVN, or other software configuration management tools
• Experience leading small software development teams or technical task groups.
• Knowledge of spacecraft command and data handling systems.
• Experience supporting environmental testing, integration and test campaigns, or launch preparation activities.
• Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work effectively in a collaborative NASA and contractor environment.
• Self-motivated with strong attention to detail and quality.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced mission environment.
