Job summary

Plumas District Hospital in Quincy, CA is seeking a Flight Nurse for the Per Diem program to deliver emergency medical care in flight and during transport, following applicable laws and hospital policies.

The ideal candidate holds a California RN license with ACLS/BCLS/PALS and ITLS/PHTLS, CFRN and NRP, plus three years of critical care or emergency nursing experience. Per diem roles may include shift differentials and holiday pay.

Qualifications

  • Three years of full-time critical care or emergency nursing experience.
  • Maintain California RN licensure and required CMEs.
  • ACLS, BCLS, PALS, ITLS/PHTLS and CFRN/NRP certifications within stated timelines.
  • Valid driver’s license and basic computer skills.

Responsibilities

  • Respond to emergencies quickly and efficiently in-flight or on scene.
  • Administer basic, advanced and critical care life support per protocols.
  • Assess injuries and illnesses to prioritize procedures.
  • Communicate with receiving facilities to coordinate patient transfer.
  • Maintain order at scenes and coordinate with EMS teams.

Nature and Scope

Under the supervisor, the ideal incumbent will perform duties associated with providing emergency medical care to the sick and injured in accordance with all applicable laws, regulations, and Company policies.

Location
  • We are located at 1065 Bucks Lake Road, Quincy, CA 95971.
  • You may be scheduled to work in either Lassen or Plumas County
Compensation

Compensation for Non-Benefited, Per Diem Pay Scale

  • Base Rate: $45.82–$66.89 per hour
  • Starting pay is determined using our clinical pay scales, which feature 13 steps recognizing up to 30 years of relevant experience.
  • Eligible employees may also receive shift differential and holiday pay.

Qualifications

Experience:

  • Three (3) years full-time critical care and / or emergency nursing experience.
  • Must possess basic computer knowledge.
  • Experience in flight medicine, EMS and public education (field or classroom based)

Education:

  • Maintain current California RN licensure.
  • Maintain the required annual continuing medical education credits as set forth by the California Board of Nursing.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Nevada R and EMS-RN licensure within two (2) months of hire
  • ACLS certification.
  • BCLS certification.
  • Hazardous Materials R & I (after hire).
  • PALS certification.
  • Advanced trauma course (ITLS, PHTLS, or TPATC, along with SREMS advanced skills training within two (2) months of hire.
  • CFRN certification within eighteen (18) months of hire.
  • NRP certification within six (6) months of hire.
  • Other certifications as required.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

  • Advanced Physiology & Pathophysiology: Deep understanding of how altitude, pressure changes, and flight stressors affect critically ill or injured patients.
  • Critical Care Pharmacology: In-depth knowledge of vasoactive drugs, paralytics, sedatives, and mechanical ventilation protocols.
  • Aviation Safety & Operations: Understanding of FAA regulations, aircraft weight/balance limitations, and survival/safety protocols
  • Trauma & Resuscitation: Mastery of advanced life support
  • Advanced Airway & Surgical Interventions: Proficiency in endotracheal intubation, needle/surgical cricothyrotomy, and mechanical ventilator management.
Responsibilities
  • Responding to an emergency efficiently and promptly.
  • Administering basic, advanced and critical care life support to patients at the scene or transferring facility, en route to the receiving hospital, and in a pre-hospital setting, in accordance with federal, state, and local laws, regulations, and standards, and in accordance with Company policies and guidelines.
  • Assessing the nature and extent of injury or illness to establish and prioritize medical procedures to be followed.
  • Effectively communicating with professional medical personnel and treatment facilities to obtain instructions regarding further treatment and/or to arrange reception of patients to the appropriate center.
  • Maintaining order at scenes and requesting facilities.
