- Provide high-quality nursing care, including assessment, triage, treatment, and advanced procedures, throughout critical-patient transport
- Determine and prioritize care needed for safe transport to the appropriate facility
- Maintain thorough patient-care documentation
- Maintain competency through ongoing laboratory, clinical, and continuing education experiences
- Operate and routinely maintain medical equipment and supplies; report failures and initiate repairs
- Maintain adequate onboard supplies and keep the aircraft clean and orderly
- Attend pre-mission briefings and mission debriefings and complete required documentation
- Assist with pre-mission liftoff checklists and support the pilot with radio, navigation, and visual observation activities
- Comply with aviation and safety standards and conduct aircraft safety briefings as needed
- Support neonatal/pediatric personnel during specialty transports
- Participate in patient and referring-institution follow-up
- Participate in outreach marketing and education activities
- Precept and/or orient new employees and students
- Participate in meetings, activities, projects, committees, research, and publishing opportunities
- Maintain availability for a minimum of two 24-hour shifts per week at any CBS base where currently licensed
- Travel approximately 85%
Requirements
- Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing
- Minimum three (3) years recent critical care/emergency nursing experience within the last 5 years or as required by state/local EMS regulations
- One year of full-time flight experience required
- Current RN license(s) for states of practice where Air Methods maintains CBS locations; nurse compact license preferred
- EMS or MICN certification/licensure as required by state regulations
- Current Healthcare Provider BLS/CPR, ACLS, PALS or equivalent certifications as required by state or county
- Current TNCC/ITLS/PHTLS advanced provider certification if required by state or county
- Specialty certification required: CFRN, CCRN, or CEN
- One acceptable advanced trauma certification: TNCC, ATLS/ATCN, TPATC, or CAMTS-approved advanced trauma course
- Current NRP certification
- NIMS Training IS 100, 200, 700, 800 and HazMat
- Ability to maintain weight not exceeding 225 pounds including empty flight suit and boots
- Ability to work a flexible schedule including 24-hour shifts, overtime, and an on-call rotation
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook
- Strong critical thinking, reasoning, communication, presentation, interpersonal and collaboration skills
- Ability to prioritize and multitask in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to work at any CBS base where currently licensed
- Must maintain required licensure, certifications, continuing education, aviation and safety training, OSHA and HIPAA training, clinical rotations, and advanced procedures
