Job summary

Spectrum Healthcare Resources has a potential civilian Flight Medicine Physician opportunity at Hickam Air Force Base in Honolulu. This outpatient clinic position runs Monday–Friday, 7:00 am–4:30 pm (40 hours/week) with no nights, weekends, or holidays and no on-call requirements.

Qualifications

  • State medical license in any state.
  • At least 35 hours of direct patient care in the past year.
  • Minimum 3 years in the last 10 years as a privileged flight surgeon at a US military installation.
  • BLS/ACLS certification is required.
  • Board certification in aerospace/occupational medicine, family medicine, emergency medicine, or osteopathic family medicine.

Responsibilities

  • Provide health care in Flight Medicine or Occupational Health clinics.
  • Deliver preventive, comprehensive medical care including behavioral and occupational health.
  • May serve as primary care manager (PCM) for a patient panel.
  • Examine patients, develop differential diagnoses, order tests, and implement treatment plans.
  • Direct case management and coordinate subspecialty referrals as needed.
  • Respond to patient phone consults with clinic staff support.
  • Review occupational health data and ensure medical surveillance compliance.

Job Description

Spectrum Healthcare Resources has a potential opportunity for a civilian Flight Medicine Physician at Hickam Air Force Base, located in Honolulu. This contract position offers:

Outpatient Clinic
  • Monday - Friday, 7:00 am - 4:30 pm (40 hrs per week)
  • No nights, No weekends, no Holidays
  • No On Call
  • Freedom from Malpractice Insurance Worries
Clinical Scope
  • The Physician - Flight Surgeon shall provide health care to beneficiaries assigned to the Flight Medicine Clinic, Occupational Health Clinic, or other civilian Physician administrative tasks
  • Care shall include but not be limited to continuing, comprehensive health maintenance and provision of medical care, including preventive medicine, behavioral health, occupational health, and community health.
  • The civilian Physician - Flight Surgeon may become the primary care manager (PCM) for a panel of patients. As a PCM, the flight medicine physician will be the primary person responsible for the management of the health and wellness of his/her assigned patients.
  • Duties include: Examination of patients, formulation of differential diagnostic plans, ordering of appropriate diagnostic testing. Interpretation of examination findings and test results, and implementation of treatment plans.
  • Determination of the need for consultation and assisting in medical care and treatment provided at the direction of other specialists
  • Approving/disapproving subspecialty referrals.
  • Directing case management activities.
  • Answering patient telephone consults with the assistance of clinic staff.
  • Providing primary and secondary preventive maintenance care.
  • Review, interpret, and act upon medical surveillance data relating to the Occupational Health program.
Requirements

The Flight Surgeon will have the following requirements:

  • Any State License
  • Minimum of 35 hours of direct patient care in the past year.
  • Minimum of 3 years' experience in the last 10 years having served as a privileged flight surgeon at a US Military installation, with experience in: U.S. military medical standards to conduct special operational evaluations, including (but not limited to) PHA for flyers/special duty personnel, initial certification exams for flying/special duty applicants.
  • BLS/ACLS
  • Current board certification by one of the following boards: the American Board of Preventive Medicine (Aerospace Medicine and/or Occupational Medicine), the American Board of Family Medicine, the American Board of Emergency Medicine, American College of Osteopathic Family Physicians, or board certified by the American Osteopathic Association through the American Osteopathic Board of Preventive Medicine.
