Job summary

Prime Physicians at Mountain Home AFB, Idaho is seeking a Flight Medicine physician for a full-time role to provide comprehensive flight, occupational, and primary care services at the Flight Medicine Clinic and Occupational Health Clinic. Start date 1 August 2026. Schedule Monday–Friday, 0730–1630 (8 hours with a 60-minute lunch). Approximately 40 hours per week.

Compensation: W2 $140/hr; 1099 $160/hr; no PTO. Requires 3+ years of U.S. military Flight Surgeon experience and a U.S.

Qualifications

  • MD/DO degree from LCME/COCA-accredited medical school or equivalent US/Canada program.
  • USMLE completion or ECFMG certification for foreign graduates.
  • Active medical license in a US state, territory, or DC.
  • NPI number and DEA registration.
  • BLS certification in good standing.
  • Aerospace Medicine board certification recommended or completion of relevant residency.

Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive flight medicine, occupational medicine, and primary care services to eligible patients.
  • Serve as Primary Care Manager (PCM) for assigned patient panels; deliver preventive, acute, and chronic care.
  • Perform medical evaluations, physical exams, diagnosis, treatment planning, and follow-up.
  • Order, interpret, and evaluate lab tests and imaging studies.
  • Coordinate referrals and case management and advise on specialty care as needed.
  • Perform aeromedical evaluations and assist with operational medical recommendations.
  • Prepare aeromedical waivers, DNIF/DNIC, and Return-to-Fly documentation as required.
  • Maintain complete electronic medical records and comply with DHA/Air Force policies.

Compensation:

W2 rate is $140 per hour (no PTO)

1099 is $160 per hour

Work Schedule: Monday–Friday, 0730–1630 (8-hour shift with a 60-minute uncompensated lunch break). Approximately 40 hours per week. Specific schedules are established by the Government and provided one month in advance.

Qualifications
  • Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) or Doctor of Osteopathy (D.O.) from a medical school in the United States or Canada accredited by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME), the Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation (COCA), or an equivalent accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education/ACGME.
  • Graduates of foreign medical schools must demonstrate equivalency through ECFMG certification, a Fifth Pathway certificate, or successful completion of the USMLE.
Education

Experience
  • Minimum of 3 years of U.S. military Flight Surgeon experience.
  • Ability to locate, interpret, and apply Air Force and DoD regulations including AFI 48-123, AFI 36-2905, AFI 10-203, DoD 5210.42-R, and applicable Air Force manuals.
  • Experience providing comprehensive primary care, occupational medicine, preventive medicine, and aerospace medicine services.
  • Experience performing aeromedical evaluations and supporting operational medicine programs is preferred.
License / Certification
  • Current, full, active, and unrestricted license to practice medicine in a U.S. state, territory, or the District of Columbia.
  • Completion of AMP 101, AMP 201, AMP 202 (or approved equivalents), and Aerospace Medicine Initial Practical (AMIP).
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Current Board Certification in Aerospace Medicine is highly recommended. If not, board certified in Aerospace Medicine, then must show proof of completion of any medical residency program.

  • Active DEA Registration.
Additional Requirements
  • Must be a US Citizen
  • Successfully complete Government credentialing and privileging requirements.
  • Successfully obtain a favorable DHA security determination and SF-85 background investigation prior to start.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications and electronic medical record systems.
  • Complete all mandatory MTF training, including HIPAA, Cyber Awareness, OPSEC, Active Shooter, GENESIS, Anti-Terrorism, and other required Government training.
Responsibilities
  • Provide comprehensive flight medicine, occupational medicine, and primary care services to eligible beneficiaries assigned to the Flight Medicine Clinic and Occupational Health Clinic.
  • Serve as a Primary Care Manager (PCM) for assigned patient panels, providing preventive, acute, and chronic medical care.
  • Perform medical evaluations, physical examinations, diagnosis, treatment planning, and follow-up care.
  • Order, interpret, and evaluate laboratory tests, diagnostic imaging, and other diagnostic studies.
  • Determine the need for specialty consultations and coordinate referrals and case management activities.
  • Perform aeromedical evaluations and assist Government Flight Medicine physicians with operational medical recommendations.
  • Conduct flying and special duty physical examinations, Public Health Assessments (PHAs), initial certification examinations, and adaptability assessments.
  • Assist in preparing aeromedical waivers, DNIF/DNIC recommendations, and Return-to-Fly documentation as authorized by credentials and privileges.
  • Apply Air Force medical standards, profiling guidance, deployment health assessment requirements, and occupational health regulations.
  • Diagnose and treat a broad range of acute and chronic medical conditions involving multiple body systems.
  • Perform office-based medical procedures including airway management, wound repair, incision and drainage, skin biopsies, cryotherapy, fracture stabilization, splinting, catheterization, venipuncture, foreign body removal, and medication administration.
  • Review and act upon occupational health surveillance data and medical readiness requirements.
  • Prepare and maintain complete, accurate, and timely electronic medical documentation in accordance with Air Force and DHA policies.
  • Participate in patient care conferences, quality improvement activities, clinical meetings, and professional education related to assigned duties.
  • Provide patient education on preventive medicine, occupational health, wellness, and disease prevention.
  • Respond to HAZMAT and in-flight medical emergencies when appropriately credentialed and requested.
  • Comply with all DHA, Air Force, MTF, HIPAA, patient safety, infection control, and clinical practice requirements.
