Job summary

Aerotek is seeking a Press Operator to operate flexographic printing presses, set up equipment, and ensure produced materials meet specifications. The role involves quality checks, proper labeling, and adherence to safety in a manufacturing environment.

Training on day shift precedes the regular night shift, with emphasis on maintaining calibration and documentation. This onsite Orlando position requires physical stamina and the ability to work a 7:00 PM to 7:00 AM 2-2-3 rotation, including

Job Title: Press Operator

Job Description

The Press Operator sets up, operates, and troubleshoots flexographic printing presses to produce high-quality printed materials that meet defined specifications. This role ensures all jobs conform to documented requirements, maintains control of materials and equipment, and supports a safe, efficient manufacturing environment.

Responsibilities

• Operate flexographic printing presses to produce printed materials according to job specifications and quality standards.
• Ensure each print job conforms to the job jacket information, including design, colors, and other production requirements.
• Retain and properly store print samples for quality verification and recordkeeping.
• Promptly notify the Supervisor or Quality Assurance Technician of any non-conformities or quality issues.
• Package and label work-in-process and finished products accurately and in accordance with established procedures.
• Verify that all raw materials used in production are approved and suitable for the job.
• Ensure all bench-top test and measuring equipment used during production is properly calibrated and in good working order.
• Identify, segregate, and control non-conforming material to prevent unintended use.
• Set up printing presses, including mounting plates, preparing inks, adjusting web paths, and aligning components for production.
• Perform thorough machine clean-up after jobs, including cleaning rollers, decks, and other relevant components.
• Assist with basic troubleshooting of press issues, excluding electrical troubleshooting, to minimize downtime.
• Follow all plant safety procedures and use required protective equipment while operating and working around machinery.
• Work effectively on night shift schedules and participate in day-shift training as required.
• Use standard office equipment such as computers, phones, and printers to complete job-related documentation and communication.
• Regularly stand, walk, reach, and handle materials, and safely lift and move items weighing up to 50 pounds as needed.

Essential Skills

• Hands-on experience operating printing presses, preferably flexographic presses.
• Demonstrated ability to set up press equipment, including mounting plates, preparing inks, and adjusting machine settings.
• Experience with machine operation in a manufacturing or production environment.
• Ability to perform basic troubleshooting on press equipment, excluding electrical troubleshooting.
• Familiarity with solvent-based printing presses and solvent-based inks.
• Comfort working with bench-top test and measuring equipment and verifying calibration status.
• Ability to read and follow job jackets, production specifications, and quality standards.
• Capability to identify and control non-conforming material in a production environment.
• Physical ability to regularly stand, walk, use hands and fingers, reach with hands and arms, and occasionally lift and move up to 50 pounds.
• Ability to work night shifts from 7:00 PM to 7:00 AM on a 2-2-3 schedule, including every other weekend.
• Willingness to complete training on day shift for at least two months before moving to the regular shift.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience as a flexographic press operator responsible for running multi-color print presses.
• Experience with solvent-based ink systems is a strong plus.
• Familiarity with Allied Gear Flexo-Master 16" narrow web presses with up to 8-color flexo printing.
• Experience with Aqua Flex 2558 LX and CMR 650 mid-web presses with up to 25" web widths.
• Exposure to Millennium series custom presses with 25–41" web widths, 3-color flexo, inline die cutting, and slitting.
• Experience with UTECO OPAL 1000 presses with up to 39" web widths, 8-color flexo CI press, center winder or surface winder, die cutting, and slitting.
• Familiarity with plate mounting processes, color matching, and label printing software.
• Comfort working around moving equipment, climbing on and off machinery, and using stairs as needed.
• Ability to obtain or maintain any required certifications for operating plant machinery, as applicable.
• Experience working in environments with high noise levels, airborne dust, and hot or humid conditions.

Work Environment

This role operates primarily in a manufacturing environment with potential safety and health hazards typical of an industrial setting. You will regularly work around moving mechanical equipment and may need to get on and off machinery and use stairs. The environment may include non-toxic or nuisance chemical smells, airborne dust, high noise levels, and hot or humid conditions. Hearing protection, safety shoes, eye protection, and other personal protective equipment are required in manufacturing areas. The position also involves routine use of standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines for documentation and communication. Work is performed on a night shift schedule from 7:00 PM to 7:00 AM on a 2-2-3 rotation, with one week at 36 hours and the next at 48 hours, including every other weekend. Initial training takes place on day shift for at least one month to ensure thorough onboarding and skill development.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $32.00/hr.
