Job summary

Brentwood School District invites applications for Substitute/Temporary Teacher positions to cover for absent teachers, ensuring continuous student learning and safety. The district offers a self-determined schedule based on vacancies and day-rate compensation for uncertified and certified substitutes.

Eligible candidates hold or pursue a Missouri teaching certificate or substitute certificate, with preferred education in progress and prior youth experience. EOE.

Qualifications

• Must have a minimum of 60 college credit hours or complete the 20-hour training offered by Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE)
• Working on or conferred Bachelor's Degree in education is preferred
• Experience working with youth is preferred
• Missouri teaching certificate in any subject area or Missouri Substitute Certificate is required

Responsibilities

• Provides classroom instruction to students as outlined in lesson plans
• Creates a safe and orderly environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of all students
• Maintains established routine of the school and classroom procedures in which assigned
• Maintains reasonable rules of conduct which encourage self-discipline and responsibility
• Meets and instructs assigned classes in the locations and times designated and maintains appropriate record keeping of student performance
• Remains at school the entire school day, unless otherwise instructed to leave by the building principal
• Demonstrates a sense of professional responsibility and maintains a professional appearance as an example to students
• Maintains confidentiality regarding staff/student information
• Supervises students in all areas of the school grounds and off school grounds when involved in school activities
• Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities
• Reports incidents (e.g. fights, suspected child abuse, suspected substance abuse, etc.) for the purpose of maintaining personal safety of students, providing a positive learning environment and adhering to education code and school policies
• Responds to emergency situations for the purpose of resolving immediate safety concerns and/or directing to appropriate personnel for resolution
• Communicates effectively and professionally with parents, staff, students, and community members
• Completes other duties as assigned by building or district administration
• Ability, both orally and in writing, to present information effectively and respond appropriately to questions and concerns from individuals, administrators, parents, and students
• Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with students, staff, and parents through oral and written communication
• Ability to work with basic mathematical concepts
• Ability to read, analyze, and interpret lesson plans, technical procedures, and textbooks
• Ability to solve practical problems and address a variety of unexpected situations
• Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form
• Basic knowledge in use of various digital platforms: Email, Google Docs/Sheets/Slides
• Ability to perform duties with awareness of school expectations/requirements
• Ability to implement lessons based on school objectives and student needs
• Must speak, stand, talk, walk, see, hear, and, sometimes, sit on a regular basis
• Occasionally required to climb, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl
• Occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
• Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and the ability to read small print
• Frequently bend, reach above the head and forward, and use fine motor skills
• The noise level will vary depending on the daily activity. It, at times, is very quiet in the classroom but often, as in the cafeteria and/or school assemblies, is moderate to very loud
• The employee must often meet deadlines and must report to class and/or duty assignments on time.
• The work environment includes inside, and possibly outside areas for supervision purposes
