Job summary

NHC HealthCare Chattanooga is seeking a Maintenance Assistant to support the Maintenance Supervisor in coordinating the daily operation of the maintenance department. You will contribute to safe, comfortable facility conditions and assist with routine checks and repairs.

Responsibilities include rounds, HVAC and boiler checks, equipment inspections, and on-call support. The role requires flexibility, physical ability, and teamwork to ensure uninterrupted patient care and facility operations.

Qualifications

• Must be able to communicate effectively with staff, patients and families.
• Willingness to work flexible hours as needed.
• Experience with painting, drywall, electrical and plumbing tasks.
• Ability to perform moderate to heavy physical work up to 65 pounds.
• Frequent walking or standing is required.
• Coordination with other departments to avoid interrupting patient care.

Responsibilities

• Assist with maintenance rounds to check zones for safety and quality of care.
• Inspect and report on HVAC units, laundry equipment, water heaters and boilers.
• Perform daily repairs and basic maintenance tasks as needed.
• Check electrical outlets, alarms, doors and safety devices and report issues.
• Keep storage and work areas organized and up to standards of safety.
