Job summary

The Lexington Public Library (LPL) is seeking a part-time Library Associate I at the Northside Branch to deliver friendly public service, assist with circulation, and support daily library operations in a welcoming, inclusive environment.

This role requires a High School Diploma or GED, solid knowledge of literature and digital resources, strong communication skills, and the ability to work a flexible schedule including evenings and weekends. Starting pay is $16.16 per hour.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED.
• Knowledge of popular literature and current digital resources.
• Knowledge of library procedures and automation systems.
• Ability to learn standard library procedures quickly.
• Ability to provide accurate, enthusiastic customer service.
• Ability to communicate effectively and build relationships.
• Working knowledge of Windows and MS Office; internet navigation.
• Ability to work independently and with a team.
• Ability to work a flexible schedule.
• Must pass a background investigation.

Responsibilities

• Provide friendly, proactive customer service with circulation duties and library accounts.
• Assist customers in using resources, technology, and equipment including catalog and databases.
• Support readers’ advisory by suggesting books and helping locate materials.
• Explain library policies and refer issues to supervisors.
• Perform routine collection and circulation tasks: check in, shelving, holds, maintenance.
• Assist with development and delivery of library engagements under supervision.
• Maintain a safe, welcoming environment and address facility issues.
• Use library email to stay informed of operations.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
